Summer Office Chair Heat and Humidity
The issue of heat and humidity in office chairs during summer can be improved through material selection, physical cooling, environmental adjustment, habit modification, and long-term care.

1. Choose breathable materials
Opt for office chairs made of breathable composite mesh fabric, typically a blend of nylon and polyester fibers, known for their high toughness, scratch resistance, and resistance to sagging. The mesh structure of these materials promotes air circulation, helping to keep the back dry. However, note that when the ambient humidity exceeds 75% or when wearing thick clothing, the breathability effect may be reduced, necessitating the use of other methods for supplementary improvement.
2. Physical cooling and immediate treatment
- Damp cloth wiping + ventilation: After wiping the chair surface with a slightly damp soft cloth, place it in a well-ventilated area to dry, which can quickly lower the surface temperature and reduce stickiness.
- Ice pack cooling: Wrap an ice pack in a towel and briefly place it on the chair surface or the back contact area to alleviate heat and humidity through low temperatures, but avoid direct skin contact to prevent frostbite.
- Portable fan: Use a small fan to blow air towards the body or the chair surface, accelerating sweat evaporation and enhancing local air circulation.
3. Improve environmental temperature and humidity
- Ventilation and cooling: Open windows or use fans to promote air convection and lower indoor temperatures; it is recommended to set the air conditioner temperature around 26โ to avoid excessive dryness of the skin or discomfort caused by large temperature differences.
- Sunshade measures: Use curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight, reducing heat accumulation on the chair surface due to sunlight exposure.
4. Adjust personal habits
- Wear breathable clothing: Choose clothing made of natural fibers such as cotton and linen to enhance sweat absorption and evaporation capabilities.
- Reduce prolonged sitting: Get up and move around for 5-10 minutes every 30 minutes to promote blood circulation and avoid exacerbating heat and humidity due to prolonged local pressure.
- Auxiliary tools: Place a sweat-absorbent towel on the back of the chair to promptly absorb back sweat and keep the skin dry; or choose a lumbar support with a breathable mesh surface to disperse pressure and enhance breathability.
5. Long-term prevention and care
- Regular cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner to clean dust from the chair surface weekly and wipe the mesh fabric with a neutral detergent monthly to prevent dirt from clogging the mesh and affecting breathability.
- Skin care: In summer, carry antiperspirant lotion or talcum powder and apply it to easily sweating areas such as the back to reduce sweat secretion.
- Physical conditioning: Enhance physical fitness through dietary adjustments (such as drinking more water and consuming heat-clearing foods) or moderate exercise to reduce discomfort caused by a heat and humidity-prone constitution.
