Simple Office Chair Adjustment

Admin October 11, 2026

The adjustment methods for simple office chairs mainly include four aspects: height, backrest recline, headrest, and armrests. The specific operations are as follows:

Height adjustment is one of the most basic functions of an office chair and is usually achieved through hand-operated controls. For pneumatic height-adjustable models, users can look for the control lever or knob located beneath or on the side of the seat. After pulling up the control lever or turning the knob, repeatedly push the lever up and down to adjust the seat height. Adjust until your feet are flat on the ground, your knees form a comfortable angle (about 90ยฐ) with the front of the chair, and ensure that your eyes are level with the monitor when working on a computer and your elbows are level with the desktop when working at a desk to avoid fatigue from prolonged sitting. Some traditional mechanical height-adjustable chairs require gradual height adjustment by rotating the knob beneath the seat.

Backrest recline adjustment is done through the handle or lever on the side of the seat. After sitting firmly, pull the handle and lean back slightly, and the backrest can be fixed at a preset angle. Continue pulling the handle and applying pressure, and the backrest can spring back to an upright position. If you need to fully recline the backrest (such as during a lunch break), you usually need to operate the dedicated lever beneath the right armrest. The rocking range of some models can be adjusted by rotating the black cylinder at the front of the chair's gas lift. Rotating it clockwise or counterclockwise can limit or expand the recline range.

Headrest adjustment varies by model. The headrests of some simple office chairs (such as the Qingxian Dynamic Ergonomic Chair) support pull-up height adjustment. Users can hold the headrest and move it up and down to fit the height of their neck. Some high-end models also support front-to-back adjustment. By pressing the button on the back of the headrest or directly pushing and pulling, the distance between the headrest and the neck can be adjusted to suit different sitting postures.

Armrest adjustment is mainly for models equipped with movable armrests. Users can adjust the armrest height according to the usage scenario. For example, when typing, adjust the armrests to be level with the desktop to reduce shoulder pressure. When no arm support is needed (such as when transitioning to standing work), the armrests can be lowered or directly removed (if they are of a detachable design). The adjustment method is usually to press the button beneath the armrest or rotate the knob on the side of the armrest. Some models support multi-position locking.

Using the adjustment functions correctly can significantly improve office comfort. It is recommended to adjust gradually according to your body type and usage habits and regularly check the stability of components such as the gas lift to ensure safety.
