Repair Methods for Broken Screws in Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

The repair methods for broken screws in office chairs should be selected based on the location and type of the break. Details are as follows:

1. Broken Screw Connecting the Armrest and Backrest of an Executive Chair

If the broken screw is connecting the armrest and backrest of an executive chair, it is recommended to contact a furniture store for repair or return it to the factory for processing first. Such structures usually involve complex assembly processes, and non-professionals attempting to disassemble them may cause secondary damage. Furniture stores or manufacturers have specialized tools and original parts, enabling more efficient repairs while preserving product warranty rights.

2. Breakage at the Backrest Connection of a Computer Chair

If the breakage occurs at the backrest connection of a computer chair, you can repair it yourself by following these steps:

  1. Prepare Materials

    • One 92mm 304 stainless steel connecting plate
    • One set of 304 stainless steel flat-head screws M5
    • Stainless steel zip ties with a length of 35mm
    • AB glue or epoxy adhesive (mixed in a 50:50 ratio)
  2. Bond the Broken Surface
Apply the mixed adhesive evenly to the broken area, ensuring full coverage of the contact surface. Let it sit for 10 minutes for the adhesive to fully cure, providing a basic support for subsequent reinforcement.

  3. Install the Connecting Plate

    • Align the connecting plate with the broken surface and mark two hole positions on each side (a total of four holes) with a marker pen to distribute pressure through multiple points.
    • Use a lithium-ion drill or soldering iron to drill holes at the marked positions, ensuring the hole diameter matches the screws.
    • Tighten the screws to secure the connecting plate. If the hole positions on the other side are misaligned, temporarily tighten them with stainless steel zip ties and use pliers to pull them tight until there is no looseness.
  4. Lateral Reinforcement
Wrap stainless steel zip ties around the side of the broken area to further enhance structural stability and prevent secondary breakage due to lateral forces.

  5. Appearance Repair
After reinstalling the accessories, cover the repaired area with carbon fiber stickers to conceal the marks and improve aesthetics.

3. Broken Fixed Bolt at the Bottom of the Chair

If the broken part is the fixed bolt at the bottom of the chair, follow these steps:

  1. Drill a small hole (about 3-5mm in diameter) in the center of the bolt with a metal drill bit.
  2. Select a hexagonal drill bit close to the hole diameter and hammer it vertically into the hole to ensure a tight fit with the inner wall of the bolt.
  3. Use a power drill in reverse mode to rotate and remove the broken bolt.
  4. Clean the threaded hole and install a new bolt that matches the original specifications and tighten it.

4. Prevention and Solutions for Broken Self-Tapping Screws

Broken self-tapping screws are often caused by insufficient connection force or material issues, which can be improved through the following measures:

  • Replace with high-strength self-tapping screws (such as 304 stainless steel).
  • Apply uniform pressure during installation to avoid local stress concentration.
  • For frequently stressed parts, switch to a bolt-and-nut fixing method.
  • Regularly inspect the chair structure and tighten loose screws in a timely manner.
