Paint for Office Chairs
Admin October 08, 2026
Paint can be used to repair scratched office chairs, including those made of metal, leather, or wood, but it is necessary to choose the appropriate type of paint according to the material and operate according to the standard.

1. Paint Selection for Different Materials of Office Chairs
- Metal Chairs: Use anti-rust paint to prevent rust from spreading due to the inability of ordinary paint to isolate air. If there are already rust spots on the surface, use sandpaper to thoroughly grind the rust until the original metal color is exposed before painting.
- Wooden Chairs: Ordinary furniture paint or wood paint can be used, but ensure compatibility with the wood (such as nitrocellulose lacquer, polyester paint, etc.). For solid wood, fill in defects (such as cracks and holes) first, then match the color to the original paint.
- Leather Chairs: Use leather-specific repair paint. Ordinary spray paint may crack due to insufficient adhesion or excessive hardness. Clean the surface and test the flexibility of the paint before repairing.
2. General Operating Steps and Precautions
- Surface Preparation:
- Cleaning: Wipe the surface with a dry cloth or alcohol to remove dust, grease, and other contaminants, ensuring paint adhesion.
- Rust Removal (Metal Chairs): Use sandpaper (e.g., 80-120 grit) to grind rust until the surface is smooth and free of rust powder.
- Filling Defects (Wooden Chairs): Use wood powder or a specialized filler to repair cracks, then sand smooth after drying.
- Painting Operation:
- Distance Control: Maintain a distance of 10-20 centimeters between the spray nozzle and the surface to avoid excessive paint thickness (prone to sagging) or a grainy finish due to being too far away.
- Layered Spraying: Apply 2-3 thin coats, with an interval of 20 minutes between each coat, to ensure uniform drying of the paint layers.
- Temperature Requirements: The construction environment temperature should be between 15-25โ, with humidity below 70%, to avoid paint layer cracking due to low temperatures or rapid drying due to high temperatures.
- Post-Treatment:
- After drying, inspect the paint surface. If there are color differences or flaws, you can touch up locally or lightly sand and repaint.
- For wooden chairs, choose a paint type according to the original paint's gloss level (matte, semi-matte, glossy), or restore gloss by waxing.
3. Safety and Environmental Protection Tips
- Wear a mask and gloves when painting to avoid inhaling paint mist or contact with the skin.
- Keep the construction area well-ventilated and away from open flames (some paints contain flammable solvents).
- Dispose of waste paint cans as hazardous waste and do not discard them randomly.
