Office Chair Wobbling
If your office chair wobbles too much, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

1. Check the screw connections of the chair components
Chairs are assembled from multiple components, and it is normal for there to be gaps at the screw connections. However, if the gaps are too large or the screws are loose, it can cause wobbling. Focus on checking the fixing screws for the backrest and the base, as well as the armrests and the seat. If any are found to be loose, use the corresponding tools (such as a Phillips screwdriver or a wrench) to tighten them.
2. Confirm the chair's functional design
Some chairs come with a rocking function (allowing slight rocking) or a swivel-wheel design, and such wobbling is normal. If the wobbling amplitude is within an acceptable range and there are no other abnormalities, you can continue to use the chair; if you need to reduce wobbling, you can try fixing the chair's position or replacing the swivel wheels with non-swivel ones.
3. Check the installation direction of the base
Installing the base backward can cause the chair to tilt forward and wobble. When installed correctly, the protruding round spring should be located in front of the gas lift, and the lever for adjusting the height should be on the right side. If it is found to be installed backward, you need to disassemble the base and reinstall it to ensure the correct direction.
4. Tighten the screws of the adjustment lever
If the chair wobbles significantly when leaning back and is accompanied by a clicking sound, it is mostly due to loose screws on the adjustment lever. Use a Phillips screwdriver to rotate the plastic cover at the base connection counterclockwise to expose the metal fixing frame, and then use a wrench to tighten the 6-8 fixing screws one by one (it is recommended to operate symmetrically at intervals of 90ยฐ to prevent uneven force).
5. Repair the spring catch or replace the spring
If the chair back has weak rebound, it may be due to a failed or deformed spring catch. Locate the spring bolt at the bottom of the chair back, and use needle-nose pliers to re-insert the slipped spring hook into the catch; if the spring is already deformed, you need to measure the original spring length and then purchase a replacement spring with a diameter of 3-5mm (costing about 5-15 yuan) online for replacement.
6. Adjust the gap of the gas lift
An aging gas lift or excessive gap can cause the chair to wobble. Remove the dust cover at the bottom of the seat, locate the adjustment knob of the gas lift (usually a black plastic part), and rotate it counterclockwise to increase the support force. It is recommended to test the rebound resistance in stages of 30ยฐ during adjustment until the wobbling decreases.
7. Emergency reinforcement techniques
If you do not have professional tools, you can make temporary repairs: Cut a bicycle inner tube into 3cm-wide tape and wrap it around the joint between the chair back and the base to increase friction; or use rubber bands to tie the movable joints of the gas lift to limit the swing amplitude. Such operations can maintain stability for 3-7 days of use, but you should contact a professional repair service as soon as possible.
If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician for an on-site inspection.
