Blood Stains on Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
Blood stains on office chairs should be dealt with immediately. Different methods should be adopted according to the freshness of the blood stains and the material of the chair. The key is to avoid hot water and prioritize cold water and mild detergents.

General Treatment Steps
- Immediate Blotting/Rinsing: Use clean paper towels or a dry cloth to blot away excess blood from the surface. For fabric chair surfaces, rinse from the back of the stain with running cold water to prevent blood penetration.
- Cold Water Soaking: Soak the stained area in cold water for 10 - 30 minutes. Gently rub the edges of the blood stain to accelerate its softening and dissolution.
- Mild Detergent Cleaning: Apply a neutral detergent, soap, or an enzyme-based specialized cleaner (such as enzyme-containing laundry detergent) to the stain. Gently scrub or wipe to avoid damaging the material.
- Thorough Drying: After cleaning, ensure that the cleaned area of the chair is completely dry. It can be air-dried naturally or blotted dry with a dry cloth to prevent bacterial growth due to moisture.
Treatment Based on Different Situations
- Fresh Blood Stains: After blotting away excess blood, turn the stained area upside down and rinse the back with a large amount of running cold water, or soak it in cold water for 15 - 30 minutes. Apply a mild neutral detergent, underwear soap, or sulfur soap, gently rub with your fingers or a soft cloth, then thoroughly rinse with cold water and blot away excess moisture with a dry towel.
- Old/Stubborn Blood Stains: Extend the soaking time to 30 minutes to 2 hours. Apply a laundry detergent or underwear-specific detergent containing protease ingredients, let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes, and then gently brush in one direction with a soft-bristled brush. Oxidizing agent treatment (only suitable for white or light-colored, bleach-resistant fabrics): Apply a small amount of 3% medical hydrogen peroxide, let it sit for 5 - 15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water. Be sure to test it in a hidden area first.
Treatment Based on Different Materials
- Leather Office Chairs: After blotting away the blood stain, use a slightly damp soft cloth dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently wipe the stained area. For stubborn stains, a small amount of medical alcohol (75%) or a specialized leather cleaner can be used. Test it in an inconspicuous area first. After cleaning, wipe away the residual cleaner with a damp towel, thoroughly dry it with a dry towel, and apply a specialized leather conditioner for maintenance.
- Mesh/Fabric Office Chairs: Immediately soak the stained area in cold water. For non-removable mesh chairs, repeatedly rinse with cold water or apply a towel soaked in cold water. Use soapy water or an enzyme-containing detergent to gently scrub. For deep cleaning, vacuum first, spray a diluted cleaner, let it sit, and then suck up the solution, ensuring complete drying.
