The Wheel of the Office Chair is Loose

Admin October 09, 2026

If the wheel of the office chair is loose, it can be fixed by checking the connection method, disassembling, handling the connecting parts, and installing new wheels. Here are the specific steps:

Step 1: Check the connection method between the wheel and the chair leg and disassemble it
The disassembly methods vary depending on the connection method. For a snap-ring type, use a screwdriver to gently pry off the old wheel. Be careful to apply even force to avoid damaging the wheel or the chair leg structure. For a snap-foot connection, first hold the wheel of the caster with one hand and the bottom of the chair with the other hand, and then pull it out forcefully. If it cannot be pulled out by hand, insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point, and use the lever principle to operate it back and forth slowly. After pulling it out about 1 centimeter (0.39 inches), pull the wheel foot again. In rare cases, the caster is fixed with screws. In this case, observe the position of the screw head and use a screwdriver of the corresponding size to loosen the screw and remove the caster.

Step 2: Check and handle the connecting parts
After disassembling the old wheel, carefully check whether the connecting parts between the chair base and the wheel are loose. If any looseness is found, locate the specific loose part and use appropriate tools (such as wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.) to tighten the screws or buckles to ensure that the wheel is firmly installed. Pay attention to the matching between the tools and the parts in this step to avoid damaging the parts due to improper tools.

Step 3: Install new wheels
Select the corresponding installation method according to the wheel type. For a snap-ring type, forcefully insert the new wheel back into its original position to ensure that the snap-ring is fully snapped into the chair leg slot. For a snap-foot connection type, apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD - 40, etc.) to each chair base socket, insert the straw into the spray nozzle, and then quickly spray for half a second. If there is no lubricant spray, apply a pea-sized amount of Vaseline to the axle of each wheel, and then use a rubber mallet to hammer the caster into the chair socket. When hammering, keep the caster rod aligned with the base. If it is not in place, hammer it lightly again. For a threaded type, use a wrench to screw the new wheel back into place. When tightening, pay attention to applying moderate force to avoid damaging the threads due to over-tightening.
