Office Chair Wheel Installation
The installation of office chair wheels can be carried out according to the following steps:

Preparation and Tool Inspection Before Installation
Before installation, prepare necessary tools such as a Phillips screwdriver, Allen wrench, wrench, and rubber mallet. However, many modern quick-release wheels can be installed by hand without tools. At the same time, check whether the seat structure is stable and free from damage or deformation. Ensure that the quality and specifications of the new wheels match those of the original seat, including the diameter and length of the support rods, which can be measured with a tape measure to avoid purchasing unsuitable accessories.
Removing Old Wheels (If Replacement is Needed)
Place the chair upside down steadily so that the five-star base or pedestal faces upwards. There are two main ways to remove old wheels:
- Screw-Fixed Type: Locate the fixing screw at the center or side of the wheel. Use the corresponding screwdriver or wrench to turn it counterclockwise to remove the wheel.
- Snap-Ring Type (Most Common): This type of wheel usually has no screws. Use your fingernail, a small screwdriver, or the edge of a key to gently pry open the metal snap ring at the base of the wheel support rod while pulling it outwards to remove the wheel. Be careful to prevent the snap ring from flying off during operation.
Installing New Wheels
Align the support rod of the new wheel with the mounting hole on the five-star base. The specific installation methods are as follows:
- Snap-Ring Quick-Release Wheels: Align it directly with the hole and press it vertically with force. When you hear a clear 'click' sound, it means the internal snap ring has popped open and the wheel is installed in place. Modern silent universal wheels often adopt this structure.
- Universal Wheels with Screw Rods: Align the wheel screw rod with the threaded hole on the base by hand and turn it clockwise until it is tightened. During installation, apply a little force to ensure it is inserted in place, but avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the hole. In addition, while pressing the wheel, shake it back and forth along the direction of the chair leg. If it cannot be pressed in smoothly, try turning the wheel shaft to make the small iron ring on the shaft fit into the plastic opening.
Inspection and Adjustment After Installation
After all the wheels are installed, turn the chair back over. Check whether each wheel is installed firmly and free from looseness. Push and rotate the chair to test whether the wheels rotate smoothly without jamming. Observe whether the chair is stable and free from tilting. If there is abnormal noise or a dry feeling during rotation, apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the wheel bearings for maintenance.
