Office Chair Trash
Office chairs considered as 'trash' mainly include low-quality, low-priced office chairs and unqualified office chairs, which pose numerous serious problems and threaten the health and safety of users.

The quality of low-quality, low-priced office chairs is a major concern. A man spent 96 yuan on an office chair and experienced discomfort after using it, requiring medical attention for several days. Upon disassembly, he found that the chair was filled with shoddy scrap materials that crumbled at the touch. To reduce costs, these office chairs are made from extremely poor-quality materials, resulting in not only a short lifespan but also the potential release of harmful substances. Prolonged use can cause damage to the human respiratory system and skin, seriously affecting the user's health.
The problems with unqualified office chairs are even more diverse and severe. According to a spot check by the State Administration for Market Regulation, out of 90 batches of office chair products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and cities, 21 batches were found to be unqualified, with a non-compliance rate of 23.3%. Among them, office swivel chairs had more issues, with 17 out of the 21 unqualified batches being swivel chairs.
There are two main reasons for non-compliance. First, low-quality gas springs: Gas springs with overly thin walls, impure inert gases, or even compressed air used as a substitute for inert gases, as well as excessive heat generated by repeated and frequent seat adjustments, can all potentially cause explosions. Some office swivel chairs are not equipped with explosion-proof steel plates with a thickness of no less than 2 millimeters, which cannot prevent the gas spring from exploding and piercing the seat, causing harm to the user. Second, thin-walled and low-strength five-star bases for swivel chairs: To save costs, the metal five-star bases are made with thin walls or low-strength materials, which may break during daily use, causing the user to fall and get injured. In addition, unqualified office chairs also pose risks such as base fractures, caster detachments, and formaldehyde exceedances. Formaldehyde exceedances can irritate the human respiratory tract and eyes, and long-term exposure may lead to serious diseases such as cancer.
Therefore, when purchasing office chairs, it is advisable to choose reputable channels and well-known brands, and check the relevant quality certifications and test reports of the products to avoid buying these 'trash' office chairs with serious problems and safeguard one's own health and safety.
