Transforming an Office Chair into a Caster Chair
Admin October 10, 2026
To transform an office chair into a caster chair, you can achieve this by replacing the wheels with ones that have specific functions or by using fixed foot pads. Here are the detailed steps:

Replacing with Lockable Wheels
- Functional Features: Wheels with brake locking functions allow you to lock the chair's position when needed by pushing down the brake mechanism, preventing the wheels from turning and keeping the chair stationary. When you need to move the chair, simply lift the brake mechanism to unlock it, allowing the wheels to roll normally. These wheels meet the demands for chair fixation and mobility in different scenarios, such as locking the chair for focused work to prevent it from sliding around randomly, and unlocking it for position adjustments or communication with others.
- Replacement Method: First, lay the office chair down with its bottom facing up for easier operation. Locate the core of the old wheel and pull it out forcefully in the opposite direction of the core. Then, insert the new wheel forcefully along the hole direction on the bottom of the chair, relying on the internal spring clip of the wheel to secure it in place, ensuring that the wheel is firmly installed and will not come off during use.
Choosing Gravity Wheels
- Functional Features: Gravity wheels are a special type of wheel. When there is gravity acting on the chair, the resistance in the left and right directions of the wheels increases. This makes it relatively difficult to move the chair when someone is sitting on it, effectively preventing the chair from sliding randomly due to slight external forces and ensuring stability during use. At the same time, due to their special structural design, they produce less noise when moving, causing no disturbance to the office environment.
- Replacement Method: Similar to the initial steps for replacing lockable wheels, first lay the chair down. Remove the old gravity wheels by pulling them out in the opposite direction of the core, just like with the old lockable wheels. Then, insert the new gravity wheels forcefully along the holes and secure them with the spring clips to complete the replacement.
Using Fixed Foot Pads
- Functional Features: Fixed foot pads are a simple and practical way to keep the chair stationary. When you don't need the chair to slide, pull out the fixed foot pads and insert them into the corresponding positions on the bottom of the chair. This increases the friction between the chair and the ground, keeping the chair fixed in place.
- Usage Method: When you need to fix the chair, locate the installation positions for the fixed foot pads on the bottom of the chair and insert them accurately. When you want the chair to slide again, simply pull the fixed foot pads out from the bottom of the chair.
