Office Chair Tilts to the Right

Admin October 22, 2026

The rightward tilt of an office chair may be caused by issues with the casters, gas lift, connecting components, adjustment mechanisms, or the base. You can troubleshoot and fix the problem by following these steps:

1. Caster or floor problems Deformed casters or an uneven floor are common causes. First, check whether the wheels make even contact with the ground when the chair is placed upright and upside down. If a caster is bent, broken, or worn, the chair will tilt in that direction, and the damaged caster needs to be replaced. Second, an uneven floor (such as tile joints or sunken wooden flooring) can also cause tilting. You can test this by moving the chair to another location. If the tilting disappears after relocation, it indicates a problem with the original floor location. In this case, you need to raise the shorter chair leg or use adjustable feet to balance it.

2. Damaged gas lift The gas lift is the core component that supports the seat. If it leaks air or the internal seal fails, the chair will lose balance. You can test the elasticity by pressing down on the seat. If the rebound is too slow, too stiff, or there is a noticeable sinking, it means the gas lift is damaged and needs to be replaced with a new component. When replacing, choose a gas lift that matches the original model and ensure it is installed firmly.

3. Loose connecting components Loose screws or bolts connecting the seat surface to the chair legs and base can cause the chair structure to become unstable and tilt to one side. Use a screwdriver to loosen all visible screws counterclockwise, clean the dust or rust from the threads, add a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40), and then tighten them clockwise. If the screw holes are worn due to frequent disassembly, you can use a toothpick dipped in white glue to fill the holes. After it dries, reinsert the screws.

4. Stuck adjustment mechanism The height or tilt adjustment mechanism (such as handles or buttons) under the seat may be jammed by debris, preventing it from returning to its normal position. Clear any documents, papers, or other foreign objects from under the seat and repeatedly operate the adjustment mechanism (such as pressing the handle or rotating the button) to check if the elasticity is restored. If the internal spring of the adjustment mechanism is broken, contact after-sales service to replace the parts.

5. Frame or base problems A cracked or aged base or a loose connection at the five-star foot can cause the entire chair to tilt. Check the base for cracks or deformation. If the base is made of plastic and has become brittle, replace it with a new one. If the connection at the five-star foot is loose, tighten the fixing bolts or replace the connecting parts. If the problem is complex, it is advisable to contact a professional repair technician.

Repair step recommendations: First, check the condition of the floor and casters, tighten all connecting screws, and test the elasticity of the gas lift. After cleaning the adjustment mechanism, check its function. If the problem is still not resolved, focus on checking the base or frame and contact after-sales service if necessary. Avoid forced disassembly during operation to prevent further damage to the parts.
