National Standard for Office Chair Testing

Admin October 11, 2026

The current domestic office chair testing primarily relies on the QB/T 2280-2016 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs' standard, with reference also made to QB/T 5618-2021 and some group standards. The specific testing contents are as follows:

1. Basic General Standard: QB/T 2280-2016
Formulated by the China National Light Industry Council and implemented in 2016, this standard serves as the core basis for office chair testing, covering the following key indicators:

  • Dimension Testing: Specifies critical dimensions such as seat height, depth, and width, backrest height, and armrest height and width. For example, the adjustable range of the seat height must be โ‰ฅ60mm.
  • Shape and Position Requirements: Defines the shape, angle, and relative positional relationships of components like the seat, backrest, and armrests to ensure ergonomicๅˆ็†ๆ€ง (rationality).
  • Appearance Requirements: Components must be clean and undamaged, with secure connections. Coatings or platings should be uniform and smooth, without color differences or peeling.
  • Physical and Chemical Properties: Tests for wear resistance, stain resistance, corrosion resistance, and coating adhesion. For instance, the seat surface must pass friction tests without significant damage.
  • Mechanical Properties: Includes durability tests for the seat, backrest, and armrests (such as repeated pressure loading) and overall stability tests (such as resistance to forward and lateral tipping).
  • Environmental Requirements: Formaldehyde emission must be โ‰ค0.120mg/mยฒh, and TVOC emission โ‰ค0.5mg/mยฒh, to safeguard indoor air quality.
  • Safety Requirements: For office chairs with gas springs, a steel plate or chassis โ‰ฅ2mm thick must be used between the seat bottom and the gas spring to prevent explosion risks.

2. Body Pressure Distribution Testing Standard: QB/T 5618-2021
This standard regulates the testing process for body pressure distribution in office chairs. It measures the contact pressure distribution between the human body and the seat surface using pressure sensors, assessing the seat's comfort and support to provide data for design optimization.

3. Supplementary Requirements from Group Standards
Some group standards, such as T/SPEMF 0003-2021 and T/SZFA 3006-2021, further refine indicators like material durability and structural safety. For example, they add extreme environmental adaptability requirements such as salt spray tests and high-low temperature cycle tests.

The testing process is typically carried out by third-party institutions, which conduct item-by-item tests on samples in accordance with standard requirements to ensure products comply with safety, environmental, and ergonomic norms.
