Office Chair Swivel Chair Recoloring
Admin October 12, 2026
The recoloring of office chair swivel chairs can be completed through the following steps, and appropriate methods should be selected based on the material while strictly adhering to operational specifications:

I. Preparation
- Material Preparation:
- Spray paint: Prioritize environmentally friendly water-based paint (less odor, quick drying). For wooden chairs, water-based wood paint or wood wax oil can be selected; metal chairs require special anti-rust paint; plastic chairs need plastic recoloring spray paint.
- Tools: Fine sandpaper (120-grit coarse sandpaper + 240-grit fine sandpaper), cloth, masking tape, old newspapers, masks, gloves.
- Environmental Requirements:
- Choose a well-ventilated outdoor area or balcony, with a temperature controlled between 15-25ยฐC and humidity below 60% to prevent paint cracking.
- Lay newspapers on the ground and remove small components such as metal handles and screws to prevent contamination or loss.
II. Basic Treatment
- Surface Cleaning:
- Wipe the chair with a damp cloth to remove dust and oil stains; stubborn stains can be cleaned with alcohol or white vinegar.
- Sanding Treatment:
- Wooden/Metal Chairs: First, use 120-grit coarse sandpaper to evenly sand the old paint layer or smooth surface along the grain to expose the base color; then, use 240-grit fine sandpaper to finely sand until the surface is smooth.
- Plastic Chairs: Lightly sand the surface to enhance adhesion, avoiding excessive sanding that may cause damage.
- After sanding, wipe away the dust with a dry cloth and let it dry for later use.
- Protecting Non-Sprayed Areas:
- Use masking tape to cover metal connectors and fabric parts (if the original color needs to be retained) to prevent accidental spraying.
III. Spray Painting Operation
- Shaking the Paint Can: Shake the spray paint can for 1-2 minutes before use to ensure the paint is well mixed.
- Spraying Techniques:
- Maintain distance: Keep a distance of 20-30 cm from the chair surface (or 15-20 cm from the spray can) and move the spray in a 'Z' shape at a constant speed.
- Layered thin coating: Spray a thin layer each time to prevent sagging; wait 15-20 minutes between coats and apply a total of 2-3 coats.
- Primer treatment (optional): If enhanced adhesion is required, apply a special primer after sanding, let it dry completely, lightly sand it, and then spray the topcoat.
- Drying and Curing: After the final coat, place it in a well-ventilated area for 4-6 hours (water-based paint dries faster) and avoid bearing weight or touching it for 24 hours.
IV. Precautions
- Safety Protection: Wear a mask and gloves throughout the process to avoid inhaling paint mist; keep away from fire sources to prevent the spray paint can from exploding due to heat.
- Daily Maintenance: Do not bear weight within 24 hours after drying; clean with a dry cloth and avoid prolonged contact with the paint surface by a damp cloth.
- Avoid Thick Coating: When applying the topcoat, each layer should be thin; applying a thick coat at once can easily lead to sagging, brush marks, or blistering.
The recoloring effect is closely related to the material and operational details. Strictly following the steps can significantly improve the success rate and durability.
