Yellowing of Office Chairs Due to Sweat
Yellowing of office chairs due to sweat can be addressed by adopting appropriate cleaning methods for different materials.

There are various reasons why office chairs turn yellow due to sweat. For PU leather materials, sweat stains and dirt can penetrate the tiny pores on the surface of the material and combine with the aging surface layer, resulting in yellowing. Additionally, material oxidation, moisture effects, and environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays from sunlight and chemicals can also cause yellowing. Plastic or rubber materials often turn yellow due to long-term exposure to air oxidation. Yellowing of fabric materials is mostly caused by dirt penetration or oxidation.
The cleaning methods for office chairs of different materials are as follows:
- PU leather materials: Do not use alcohol or strong acid-base cleaners for cleaning, as these substances can corrode the leather surface. Instead, use diluted soapy water or a special leather cleaner. Dip a clean soft cloth into the solution and gently wipe the surface. After wiping, promptly apply a layer of leather conditioner to help restore the surface luster and reduce subsequent yellowing. For daily cleaning, use aๆงๅนฒ็ (wrung-out) damp towel to wipe. Perform a thorough cleaning with a special leather cleaner every 2 - 3 months to maintain the good condition of the leather.
- Plastic or rubber materials: Since yellowing is mostly caused by oxidation, you can make a paste by mixing baking soda with warm water, apply it to the yellowed area, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Alternatively, you can wipe with a mixture of white vinegar and warm water (in a 1:2 ratio), which can effectively fade the yellow stains. You can also first clean the surface dust, then gently wipe the yellowed area with a cleaning solution made by mixing white vinegar and water in a 1:2 ratio, and finally wipe with clean water to remove the residual solution and let it air dry naturally.
- Fabric materials: Yellowing is mostly caused by dirt penetration or oxidation. You can make a dilute solution by mixing mild laundry detergent with warm water, dip a soft-bristled brush into the solution, and gently brush the yellowed area. Then, repeatedly wipe with aๆงๅนฒ็ (wrung-out) damp towel. Finally, place it in a well-ventilated area to dry in the shade. Do not expose it to the sun to prevent the color from becoming worse.
