Sweat Stains on Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The treatment of sweat stains on office chairs should be selected according to the material, as follows:

Fabric Office Chairs

  1. Removable fabric covers: Simply remove them and put them in the washing machine. Select the gentle cycle to avoid deformation caused by high temperatures or vigorous spinning.
  2. Non-removable fabric covers:
    • First, use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove surface dust to prevent particles from scratching the fibers during wiping.
    • Moisten the sweat-stained areas with a damp cloth. Dip the cloth into diluted neutral detergent or a special fabric cleaner, and gently wipe along the direction of the fibers to avoid excessive force that could cause the fabric to fuzz.
    • If the sweat stains are stubborn or accompanied by an odor, you can use a cloth soaked in water with a small amount of white vinegar (a ratio of about 1:10), wring it out, and then wipe. White vinegar can neutralize alkaline sweat stains and kill bacteria; or prepare warm water (about 40ยฐC), add soap and baking soda (a ratio of about 1:2), stir, and then wipe. Baking soda can break down grease.
  3. Severe contamination: Use a fabric cleaner or a steam cleaner for deep cleaning. After cleaning, ensure thorough drying to prevent mold growth in a humid environment.

Leather Office Chairs

  1. Cleaning sweat stains: Spray a mild leather cleaner evenly on the sweat-stained areas. Use a clean, soft cloth to gently wipe along the direction of the leather grain to avoid damaging the leather by rubbing back and forth. If the sweat stains are stubborn, spray more cleaner and let it sit for 1-2 minutes to soften the stains before wiping.
  2. Removing residue: Use a cloth soaked in clean water and wrung out to wipe away any cleaner residue to prevent long-term chemical residue from causing the leather to dry and crack.
  3. Maintenance and care: After wiping the surface dry with a dry cloth, apply leather conditioner (such as mink oil or lanolin) evenly along the grain to moisturize the leather and form a protective film.
  4. Newly purchased genuine leather chairs: Before first use, apply maintenance wax to the surface to form a protective film that prevents sweat from penetrating the leather. Do not wipe directly with water to prevent the leather from absorbing water, swelling, and deforming.

PU and Mesh Fabric Office Chairs

  1. PU material: A damp cloth can be used to gently wipe away most stains. If the sweat stains are stubborn, you can dip the cloth in a small amount of neutral detergent to wipe. After cleaning, wipe dry with a dry cloth.
  2. Mesh fabric material: Use a soft-bristled brush dipped in diluted detergent (a ratio of about 1:50) to gently scrub the sweat-stained areas. After scrubbing, rinse thoroughly with clean water and let it air dry naturally. Mesh fabric is durable and dries quickly.

General Handling Principles

  1. Daily ventilation: Keep the office environment well-ventilated to reduce sweat residue and prevent bacterial growth.
  2. Regular cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth to clean surface dust every week to prevent dust accumulation from harming health.
