Office Chair Storage and Transportation Methods

Admin October 12, 2026

The storage and transportation of office chairs should be adjusted according to their types and transportation distances. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Disassembly and Cleaning

  1. Disassemblable chairs: Disassemble components such as armrests, wheels, and gas cylinders according to the instructions, and wrap them with stretch film to prevent scratches; non-disassemblable chairs should be wrapped entirely with stretch film.
  2. Clean components: Wipe all surfaces (such as armrests, backrests, and chair legs) with a cloth to prevent dust from causing slippage during packing or contaminating the new environment.
  3. Check parts: Ensure that small accessories like screws and wheels are complete, store them separately, and label them to prevent loss.

II. Protective Packaging

  1. Basic protection: Wrap components with bubble wrap horizontally and vertically two times each to ensure full coverage.
  2. Reinforce vulnerable areas: Thicken the wrapping around vulnerable parts such as painted surfaces, edges, and armrest connections to prevent damage during transportation.
  3. Handle special materials:
    • Leather or fabric chairs: Wrap them entirely with dust covers or old bedsheets;
    • Chairs with glass decorations: Wrap the glass parts first and secure them with tape.

III. Packing and Securing

  1. Use original packaging: If the original packaging is intact, place the packed components directly inside.
  2. Custom packaging:
    • Cut cardboard to make outer packaging and protect edges with hard corner protectors;
    • For valuable chairs (such as rosewood or solid wood chairs), customize a framed wooden box and fill it with foam or clothing to reduce gaps.
  3. Fill gaps: Use foam blocks or packing paper to fill empty spaces in the box to prevent component movement and collisions.
  4. Store small parts: Place small accessories like screws in sealed bags, label them, and attach them to the main chair body or store them separately.

IV. Labeling and Handling

  1. Label the box: Attach labels such as โ€œFragileโ€ and โ€œThis Side Upโ€ to remind handlers to handle with care.
  2. Handling methods:
    • Heavy chairs require two people to cooperate, distribute the weight evenly, and avoid tipping; do not use armrests as leverage points (they are prone to breakage); instead, lift by the seat;
    • When stacking multiple chairs, place the backrest of the bottom chair against the inverted seat of the top chair, with a contact area of 1/3, and hold both parts with both hands for handling.
  3. Route planning: Measure the chair's dimensions in advance, confirm whether it can fit in elevators or staircases, and plan the handling route.

V. Selection of Transportation Methods

  1. Light chairs: Prioritize express delivery (costs approximately 30-50 yuan);
  2. Heavy chairs (such as solid wood or massage chairs): Choose a logistics company (costs approximately 100-200 yuan) and confirm whether it includes upstairs delivery service;
  3. Same-city transportation: Use platforms like Huolala (the starting price for a small truck is approximately 30-50 yuan).

VI. Handling Special Scenarios

  1. Valuable chairs (such as antique or designer chairs): Purchase transportation insurance and choose a professional art logistics company.
  2. Transportation in vehicles: Load the chairs last and unload them first, and secure them with ropes to prevent movement.

Precautions:

  • Avoid using a metal hammer when disassembling the base; instead, use a rubber hammer to prevent scratches on the paint;
  • Ensure that edges and protruding parts are not exposed during packaging to prevent damage during transportation.
