Small Dent on Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

When small dents appear on an office chair, the repair method should be selected based on the material and the severity of the dent, as follows:

Leather Seats (Genuine/Faux Leather)

  1. Mild Dents (No Damage): Use steam repair. Heat a small area around the dent with a steam iron (maintain a distance of 10-15 cm to avoid burns), while gently pressing the dent with a stiff brush or a smooth tool (such as a plastic scraper) to restore flatness by taking advantage of the leather's heat-softening property.
  2. Moderate Dents (Slight Deformation): Place a towel under the dent, heat it with a hairdryer on the hot air setting (keep the temperature below 60โ„ƒ), and after 1-2 minutes, press and hold it with a heavy object (such as a book) for more than 30 minutes while hot, then remove the object after cooling.
  3. Severe Dents (Damage or Deep Deformation): Contact a professional leather repair service. Fill the dent with leather repair paste, reshape it, and then spray it with matching leather paint to avoid secondary damage from DIY operations.

Fabric Seats

  1. Surface Dents: First, deeply clean the dent area with a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris; then, heat and soften the fabric fibers with a steam cleaner, and brush them to restore fluffiness; if there is still a dent, support it with a sponge block underneath.
  2. Deep Collapse (Foam or Spring Deformation): Remove the seat cover, replace the damaged foam or repair the springs, reinstall it, and iron it flat with a steam iron to ensure a wrinkle-free surface.

Plastic/Carbon Fiber Seats

  1. Thermoplastic Plastic Dents: Heat the dent with a hot air gun (at a temperature of 80-100โ„ƒ), and when the plastic softens, push the dent out from the inside with a suction cup or a smooth tool, and maintain the shape after cooling.
  2. Carbon Fiber Seats: Due to the high rigidity and brittleness of the material, dents usually cannot be repaired by oneself. Professional personnel are required to fill the dent with carbon fiber repair paste and polish it. In severe cases, the parts need to be replaced.

Repair Precautions

  • Thoroughly clean the surface of the seat of dust and oil stains before repair to avoid the impact of impurities on the repair effect.
  • Heating tools (such as steam irons, hairdryers, and hot air guns) should strictly control the temperature and distance to prevent burns to the leather, melting of the plastic, or damage to the fabric.
  • DIY repair is only suitable for mild dents. If the dent is accompanied by damage, deep deformation, or is made of a special material (such as carbon fiber), it is recommended to contact professional repair services to avoid exacerbating the damage.
