Simple Movements on Office Chairs
Admin October 11, 2026
Simple movements that can be done on office chairs are mainly divided into chair yoga movements, stretching movements, and other simple movements, as follows:

Chair Yoga Movements
- Backward Stretch: Sit upright on the chair with your back slightly leaning back and your hands clasping the back of your head. As you inhale, open your hands backward and upward, look at the ceiling, and spread your elbows to the sides; as you exhale, tuck your chin in, bring your elbows inward, and lower your head to look at your lower abdomen. This movement can relax the neck and shoulder muscles and relieve tension caused by prolonged sitting.
- Side Stretch: Turn around to face the back of the chair with your toes pointing outward. Grab the right side of the chair back with your left hand and straighten your right arm upward. As you exhale, bend your body to the left to stretch the side muscles of your body and enhance flexibility.
- Spinal Twist: Sit on the side of the chair, turn your body towards the back of the chair, and grasp both ends of the chair back with your hands. As you inhale, extend your spine upward; as you exhale, twist your chest to the left and backward while keeping your spine lifted. This helps improve spinal flexibility and reduce lower back fatigue.
Stretching Movements
- Neck Stretch: Slowly stretch your neck forward, backward, left, and right, holding each direction for 10 - 30 seconds. This can effectively relieve neck muscle stiffness.
- Shoulder Lift: Lift your shoulders upward and hold for 10 to 30 seconds. This can relax the shoulder muscles and prevent frozen shoulder.
- Lower Back Muscle Stretch: Stretch the muscles on both sides of your lower back one by one, starting with the left side and then the right side. This helps reduce lower back soreness.
- Hip Joint Stretch: Sit on the edge of the chair with your feet shoulder-width apart. Cross your ankles over the opposite knee, press your back forward and downward until your chest and abdomen are close to your calves and knees. This enhances hip joint flexibility.
- Lower Back Release: Rotate to the side on the chair, use the arm closest to the chair back to hold it, and gently twist the front of your body towards the chair back. Extend your other arm towards the opposite knee. This can relieve lower back muscle tension.
Other Simple Movements
- Hip Stretch: Place your right leg over your left leg, push left with your right hand, and turn your head and body to the right together. You can lean forward slightly. This stretches the hip muscles.
- Spinal Extension: Sit upright without bending or arching your back or flaring your ribs. Cross your hands and reach upwards. Then exhale and feel your abdomen gradually tighten, inhale and feel your chest expand. Imagine your spine extending. This helps maintain good sitting posture and reduce spinal pressure.
