Office Chair Side-Rear Facing the Door

Admin October 10, 2026

In Feng Shui, having an office chair facing the side or rear of the door is believed to potentially affect one's subconscious and fortune, which can be mitigated by adjusting the seating position, installing partitions, or using high-backed chairs.

From the perspective of Feng Shui principles, the main door is the primary entry and exit point for airflow and energy in an office. When seated directly facing or with the side or rear towards the door, the human body is susceptible to direct impact from the incoming energy field. This layout may lead to distraction, emotional fluctuations, and even affect work efficiency and interpersonal relationships. Although modern science has not fully confirmed the effects of Feng Shui, environmental psychology research indicates that spatial layout significantly impacts people's psychological states. Therefore, reasonably adjusting seating positions can enhance comfort and stability.

1. Adjust Seating Direction
If space permits, prioritize moving the office chair to a position with solid support behind it, such as against a wall, filing cabinet, or high partition. Having a 'backer' enhances psychological security and reduces anxiety from external disturbances. For example, choose a position at a 90-degree angle to the door to avoid direct energy impact while maintaining an open field of view for observing the surroundings.

2. Install Physical Partitions
Placing a screen or tall potted plant between the seating area and the door can effectively buffer the airflow impact. For screens, wooden or frosted glass materials are recommended, with a height of over 1.5 meters to form a visual barrier while maintaining spatial permeability. For potted plants, broad-leaved varieties (such as money trees or monstera) not only absorb carbon dioxide but also symbolize 'accumulating wind and gathering qi' with their wide leaves, improving the local energy field. Regular maintenance is necessary to prevent wilting, which could negatively affect psychologicalๆš—็คบ (psychological suggestion).

3. Use High-Backed Office Chairs
Choose seats with a backrest height exceeding the head to block rear disturbances through physical structure. High-backed chairs enhance the 'enveloping' feeling, allowing individuals to focus better during work and reducing tension from lacking rear support. Additionally, the backrest material should preferably be breathable mesh or leather to avoid discomfort from prolonged use of hard materials.

If spatial constraints prevent layout adjustments, auxiliary measures such as hanging door curtains (e.g., bead curtains or cloth curtains) or placing talismans on the desk (e.g., small crystal ornaments) can be used. However, it should be noted that the effectiveness of these methods varies from person to person, and the core remains to create a stable and comfortable working environment.
