Function of Office Chair Rocker Arm

Admin October 10, 2026

The main functions of the office chair rocker arm include adjusting the backrest rebound force, controlling the backrest recline and locking, and adjusting the seat height, with specific functions varying depending on the design.

1. Adjusting the Backrest Rebound Force
The rocker arm (or knob) on some office chairs controls the elastic force of the backrest when reclining through a mechanical structure. Rotating it clockwise usually increases the rebound force, requiring more strength to recline, which is suitable for users with a heavier weight or those who prefer firm support. Rotating it counterclockwise reduces the force, making reclining easier, suitable for users with a lighter weight or those who need to frequently adjust their sitting posture. This function is achieved by adjusting the preload of the spring or pneumatic device, ensuring the backrest remains comfortable under different usage requirements.

2. Controlling the Backrest Recline and Locking
The rocker arm on some office chairs is designed as a split type, with the left lever responsible for unlocking and locking the recline function. Pulling up the left lever releases the backrest, allowing users to freely adjust the recline angle; pressing down the lever locks the current angle after adjustment. The right lever is usually used to adjust the seat height. Advanced models may achieve multi-level recline angle switching (such as upright sitting, mild recline, and maximum recline) through a single knob, meeting the needs of different scenarios such as office work and rest.

3. Adjusting the Seat Height
Most office chairs achieve seat lifting and lowering through a pneumatic rod, with the rocker arm (or knob) controlling the extension and retraction of the pneumatic rod through rotation or pulling operations. When adjusting, it is recommended to maintain a sitting posture and use body weight to assist in pressing down or pulling up, so that the seat height matches the desktop, ensuring the knees are at a 90-degree angle and the feet are flat on the ground, thereby maintaining a correct sitting posture and reducing waist pressure. For some models, the rocker arm needs to be continuously pressed or rotated to maintain the adjustment state and automatically locks when released.

Precautions
Different models of office chairs may integrate the above functions into a single rocker arm or a split design, such as simultaneously controlling the recline force and height through a single knob, or achieving different functions through left and right split levers. Specific operations should refer to the product manual to avoid functional failure or safety hazards due to misoperation. If the rocker arm function is abnormal, check whether the pneumatic rod, spring, or mechanical structure is damaged, and contact after-sales service for repair if necessary.
