Office Chair Repair Tutorial

Admin October 09, 2026

Repairs for different types of office chairs should be selected based on the specific fault type. Here are repair tutorials for common issues:

Repair of the Backrest Gliding Function of the Sihoo C500 Second Generation Deluxe If the backrest gliding function fails, the back cover needs to be removed for inspection. First, pry open the shell from the lower edge of the back cover. Inside, you can see the fixing screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the 5 screws, and then the aluminum alloy cup holder can be removed as a whole. At this point, you can check whether components such as the slide rails and bearings are worn or stuck. After cleaning the dust, reinstall or replace the damaged parts, and finally, put the back cover back in place following the original steps.

Repair of a Broken Leg of a Solid Wood Chair For a broken wooden structure, follow these steps:

  1. Clean the joint: Use sandpaper or a blade to remove the residual wood chips at the break to ensure a flat contact surface.
  2. Bond and fix: Mix the epoxy glue in a 1:1 ratio and apply it to the broken surface. Align it and temporarily fix it with a pneumatic nail gun to prevent displacement while the glue is drying.
  3. Fill the gap: Fill the crack with wood powder and press it firmly. Drip 502 glue into it to accelerate curing. After it is completely dry, sand it until the surface is smooth.
  4. Repair misalignment: If there is a height difference at the joint, first scrape off the protruding part with a blade, then sand it with coarse sandpaper until it is flat. Reapply the glue and sand it again.
  5. Polish and color: Polish the surface with absorbent cotton. Prepare the paint according to the original wood color (mainly white, with a small amount of polygonatum and black-brown to adjust the color difference). Apply the paint to the repaired area in multiple dots, gradually transitioning to the surrounding area. During this process, lightly sand it with fine sandpaper to make the color even. Finally, cover the sand marks with a topcoat, draw the texture, and spray a matte paint surface blending agent to adjust the gloss.

Repair of a Leather Executive Chair When the leather surface is damaged, it needs to be cleaned first and then repaired:

  1. Clean the damaged area: Spray a multi-functional leather cleaner on the stains or damaged area and gently wipe it with a soft cloth to remove dust and oil stains.
  2. Repair or replace: If the damage is minor, use a leather repair paste to fill it and sand it flat. If the damage is severe, contact a professional repair person to replace the leather surface.

Repair of an Office Chair Leaning to One Side A chair leaning to one side is often due to damaged wheels or a deformed seat plate. Follow this process for troubleshooting:

  1. Check the wheels: Place the chair upright and upside down to observe whether all the wheel feet are in contact with the ground. If the wheels are damaged, purchase matching models (pay attention to the shape and size of the wheel axles). You can contact the manufacturer or take the old wheels to an office supplies store for purchase.
  2. Replace the casters: Pull out the stuck casters directly by hand. If they are tightly stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point as a lever and slowly pull it out about 1 centimeter, and then pull it again. A very small number of casters are fixed with screws and need to be removed by loosening the screws with a screwdriver.
  3. Lubricate the base: Spray a small amount of WD-40 lubricant (or apply a pea-sized amount of Vaseline) on each chair base socket. Insert a straw and quickly spray each socket for about half a second.
  4. Install new wheels: Use a rubber mallet to knock the casters into the sockets. First, align the rod with the base. If gentle pushing is ineffective, use a rubber mallet to lightly knock the base of the stem.
  5. Test and adjust: Turn the chair upside down to test the new wheels. If it still leans, check whether the seat plate (the black painted steel plate at the bottom of the seat) is deformed or broken, and replace it if necessary.
