Office Chair Recline Lever

Admin October 17, 2026

There are mainly three types of adjustment methods for the recline lever of office chairs: lever adjustment, knob adjustment, and pneumatic adjustment, as detailed below:

The lever adjustment system is a relatively common method. The recline lever is usually located near the right or left side beneath the seat. Users can disengage the recline lock, adjust the recline angle, and lock the position by pulling up or pushing down the lever. For example, the handle on the right side of a common swivel chair may lock the backrest when pushed to the left, keeping it at a fixed angle to provide stable support for the user; pulling it to the right unlocks the backrest, allowing it to move freely to meet different sitting postures. Take the Daboli S20 ergonomic chair as an example; there is a control lever on the right side of its seat cushion. After pulling out the lever, the chair can recline freely. Once the user adjusts to the desired angle, pushing the lever back locks the position, making it easy for the user to find the most comfortable recline state.

The knob adjustment system also has certain applications. The knob is generally located near the central support beneath the seat. Rotating the knob clockwise usually increases the backrest's recline resistance, which is suitable for users who are heavier or prefer more support when the backrest reclines; rotating it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, suitable for lighter users or those who prefer a more relaxed backrest recline. Users can adjust the backrest tilt according to their body weight and preferences. For instance, the cylindrical knob on the base of a common swivel chair can enhance the rebound support when rotated clockwise, making the backrest more resilient when reclining; rotating it counterclockwise weakens this support, making the backrest recline more flexibly.

Some modern office chairs use a pneumatic adjustment system. The pneumatic lever is usually arranged together with the height adjustment lever, and the recline is adjusted by pushing in different directions. This adjustment method combines the characteristics of pneumatic technology, enabling more precise control of the chair's recline state and providing users with a more comfortable and personalized experience. However, due to the relatively complex structure and higher cost of the pneumatic adjustment system, it is generally applied to some high-end office chair products.
