Office Chair Recline Adjustment Methods
Admin October 22, 2026
The methods for adjusting the recline of an office chair vary depending on the chair's type and design. Common adjustment methods are as follows:

1. Lever Adjustment System
- Locate the adjustment lever: Typically found beneath the seat, near the right or left side, or possibly at the connection point between the backrest and seat cushion on some chairs.
- Release the recline lock: Gently pull up or push down the lever (direction varies by model) to unlock the backrest.
- Adjust the recline angle: Slowly lean back while operating the lever to achieve a comfortable angle for the backrest.
- Lock the angle: If the chair supports angle locking, operate the lever again (e.g., pull up or push down) to fix the angle once the desired position is reached.
2. Knob Adjustment System
- Locate the knob: Usually positioned at the lower center of the seat, near the support column, or possibly hidden beneath the seat cushion on some chairs.
- Adjust the recline tension: Turning the knob clockwise increases the resistance of the backrest when reclining (suitable for heavier individuals), while turning it counterclockwise decreases the resistance (suitable for lighter individuals).
- Adjust the recline angle: Some chairs have a separate knob to control the angle range; refer to the product manual for operation instructions.
3. Pneumatic Adjustment System
- Operate the pneumatic lever: Often shared with the height adjustment lever, with different directions of push used to distinguish functions (e.g., push forward to adjust height, pull back to adjust recline).
- Smoothly adjust the angle: After gently pulling the lever, slowly lean back to a comfortable position; the pneumatic system provides a smooth adjustment experience.
4. Handle Adjustment
- Unlock the backrest: Pull the handle to the right (or press down on some chairs) to allow the backrest to recline freely.
- Lock the angle: After adjusting to the desired angle, push the handle to the left (or lift it up) to lock it in place.
Precautions
- Prioritize stability: Ensure the chair is placed on a flat surface during adjustment to prevent tipping due to a shift in the center of gravity.
- Customize for individual needs: Adjust the recline tension according to body weight (e.g., increase support for heavier individuals, decrease resistance for lighter individuals).
- Refer to the manual: Different brands or models of chairs may have varying operation methods; it is recommended to follow the product manual.
- Perform safety checks: Regularly inspect adjustment components (e.g., levers, knobs) for looseness to ensure safe use.
