Office Chair Care in Rainy Conditions

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chairs require material-specific care, regular maintenance, and special scenario protection in rainy or humid environments to extend their service life. The specific measures are as follows:

I. Material-Specific Care

Different materials of office chairs require targeted treatment:

  1. Mesh Fabric: After exposure to rain or moisture, use a soft cloth dipped in a neutral detergent to gently wipe away stains. Avoid using strong acid or alkaline detergents to prevent material aging. After cleaning, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally. Strictly avoid direct sunlight or hot air blowing, as this can cause mesh fiber breakage or fading.
  2. Foam Padding: Prolonged exposure to moisture can reduce the resilience of foam padding and even lead to mold growth. Regularly move the chair to a dry environment for ventilation. If it has become damp, use a hairdryer on the cool setting from a distance to dry it, or place desiccants to assist in moisture absorption.
  3. Metal Components: Water stains can accelerate metal oxidation and rusting. Promptly dry the surface moisture with a dry cloth. If rust has already formed, gently sand it with fine sandpaper and then apply anti-rust oil, focusing on areas prone to water contact such as chair legs and adjustment levers.
  4. Plastic Parts: After wiping with a damp cloth, immediately dry with a dry cloth to prevent water vapor from seeping into seams and causing cracking. If mold spots appear on the plastic surface, wipe with diluted alcohol, but avoid contact with mesh fabric or foam padding areas.

II. Regular Maintenance Recommendations

  1. Placement: Keep the chair away from areas prone to water splashing, such as windows and doorways. During periods of ground moisture, place moisture-proof mats or stands under the chair legs to isolate direct contact with moisture.
  2. Regular Cleaning: Wipe the chair body with a slightly damp soft cloth every week, focusing on cleaning areas prone to dust accumulation such as armrests and the chassis. After cleaning, be sure to absorb residual moisture with a dry cloth or use a fan to accelerate drying.
  3. Humidity Control: Use a dehumidifier or the dehumidification function of an air conditioner to maintain indoor humidity within the suitable range of 40%-60%, avoiding accelerated material aging in high-humidity environments.
  4. Long-Term Storage: If the chair needs to be stored for a long time, thoroughly clean and dry it first, then cover it with a dust cover and store it in a dry and well-ventilated place, avoiding stacking that may cause deformation or localized moisture exposure.

III. Special Scenario Protection

  1. Outdoor Use: If the office chair is placed in an outdoor area such as a patio, choose a product with strong waterproof performance (e.g., IPX4 or above) or equip it with a dedicated furniture cover or protective็ฝฉ (Note: '็ฝฉ' here means cover in Chinese, translated as 'cover' in context). After rain, promptly lift the cover for ventilation to prevent bacterial growth from accumulated water.
  2. Post-Rain Treatment: If the office chair gets wet from rain, immediately absorb surface moisture with a dry cloth and move it to a dry place for drying. If an odor appears, place activated carbon packs inside the foam padding to absorb moisture or spray a small amount of alcohol for disinfection and then ventilate.

By implementing these measures, the damage caused by humid environments to office chairs can be effectively reduced, extending their service life.
