Office Chair Quality Exposure

Admin October 16, 2026

The exposure of office chair quality reveals multiple issues, including instability, caster wear, excessive formaldehyde emissions, explosion risks, and the use of 'black-hearted scrap materials'.

I. Unqualified Inspection Results
According to a spot check by the State Administration for Market Regulation, out of 101 batches of office chairs, 15 batches were found to be unqualified, with an unqualified rate of 14.9%. Among them, instability accounted for the highest proportion (7 batches), characterized by chairs being prone to tipping over when leaning forward, backward, or sitting sideways, potentially causing users to fall and get injured; caster wear (5 batches) directly affects the service life of the chairs, with excessive wear leading to difficulty in movement; excessive formaldehyde emissions (4 batches) release harmful gases, and long-term exposure may trigger respiratory diseases or allergic reactions.

II. Serious Safety Hazards
Some office chairs pose an explosion risk, primarily due to the use of inferior materials in the gas springs or the substitution of compressed air for inert gases, which could potentially trigger an explosion under extreme conditions; insufficient strength of load-bearing components, such as weak materials in chair legs and chassis, can easily break under slight pressure, posing a risk of causing users to fall; non-compliance with flame retardancy standards, with multiple batches of products failing combustion tests, accelerating the spread of fire in case of a fire; in addition, the issue of high formaldehyde emissions recurs in multiple batches of products, further threatening health.

III. Material Fraud and Inferior Production
There is a phenomenon of using 'black-hearted scrap materials' in the market. For example, a man in Zhejiang experienced discomfort after sitting on an office chair purchased online for a few months. Upon disassembly, he found that the chair was filled with moldy wood panels and used sponges; the popular product 'Liu Liu Stool' was exposed to using recycled materials, which not only have poor durability but may also release toxic substances. Such practices not only violate quality standards but also pose a direct threat to consumer health.

IV. Comprehensive Risks and Recommendations
The quality issues of office chairs involve multiple aspects such as design, materials, and production, which can range from affecting service life to triggering safety accidents. When purchasing, consumers should prioritize products that have passed national certification, paying attention to core indicators such as stability, flame retardancy, and formaldehyde emissions, and avoiding purchasing low-priced products from unknown sources; enterprises need to strictly control the quality of raw materials, strengthen supervision over the production process, and eliminate the use of inferior or recycled materials to ensure product safety and consumer rights.
