Office Chair Placement

Admin October 09, 2026

If referring to reclining an office chair, it is a posture used for rest and relaxation after long hours of work, and safety and proper procedures should be observed during operation; if referring to placing an office chair in the living room, it is not an ideal choice from multiple perspectives.

Reclining an Office Chair

Reclining an office chair is a posture used for rest and relaxation after extended periods of work. The specific steps are as follows:

  • Locate the adjustment lever: It is located at the base beneath the chair. You can push it forward with your foot or hand. For some chairs, you may need to pull both the backrest and the base levers simultaneously.
  • Push the lever to change posture: When the adjustment lever is pushed into place, the chair will transition from a sitting position to a reclining position. During this process, ensure that your weight is evenly distributed on the chair to maintain stability and avoid violent shaking or sudden movements.
  • Adjust the seat angle: After reclining, you can adjust the seat angle according to your personal needs to find the most comfortable position.

When reclining an office chair, the following precautions should be taken:

  • Avoid excessive shaking: Excessive shaking or rapid changes in posture may cause dizziness, vertigo, or physical discomfort.
  • Pay attention to foot placement: Do not place your feet on the chair or table to avoid making the chair unstable or causing it to tip over.
  • Control the reclining time: Do not sleep or remain in a reclined position for extended periods to avoid muscle stiffness or discomfort.

Placing an Office Chair in the Living Room

From the perspectives of Feng Shui, spatial layout, functional zoning, and Feng Shui taboos, placing an office chair in the living room is not an ideal choice.

  • Feng Shui perspective: Office desks and chairs are best placed against a wall, as the wall is considered a "support" that aids in career development and symbolizes smooth work progress. Placing an office chair in the living room may not meet this Feng Shui requirement.
  • Spatial layout: The living room is the main activity area of the home, and its layout should focus on comfort and aesthetics. The placement of an office chair may disrupt the overall harmony of the living room and affect its visual appeal.
  • Functional zoning: The main functions of the living room are rest and entertainment, while the office area typically requires a more focused and quiet environment. Placing an office chair in the living room may interfere with the rest and entertainment of family members and is not conducive to improving work efficiency.
  • Feng Shui taboos: There should be no beams above the office desk, as they may create a sense of threat and an uncomfortable feeling of being top-heavy. If there is a beam in the living room and it is directly above the office chair, this will be an unfavorable Feng Shui layout.
