Office Chair Placement

Admin October 09, 2026

The placement of office chairs requires comprehensive consideration of Feng Shui, work efficiency, and health factors. Here are the key points:

  1. Back against the wall for enhanced stability
Office chairs should be placed against a solid wall or a stable partition, symbolizing having a 'reliable backer' and implying support and assistance in one's career. If there is no support behind (such as against a window or corridor), it can lead to psychological insecurity and affect concentration. If space constraints prevent leaning against a wall, it can be compensated for by placing a high-backed chair or setting up a screen.

  2. Face a well-lit area to boost positivity
The seating direction should face a naturally well-lit area (such as a window), but avoid direct sunlight that can cause screen glare or eye strain. Adequate light symbolizes a 'bright future' and helps maintain a positive mindset; if light is insufficient, it can be improved by adding a desk lamp or adjusting the curtains.

  3. Avoid facing doors or windows directly to reduce distractions
Facing a door or window directly can lead to distractions due to people moving around, external noise, or air currents creating 'sha qi' (negative energy), causing scattered attention. If unavoidable, the impact can be buffered by adjusting the chair's back direction or placing green plants or decorations, while keeping doors and windows closed to reduce interference.

  4. Choose an open position to avoid corner or traffic flow interference
Seats should not be placed tightly against corners, as this can create a closed-off aura, hindering information exchange and teamwork. The front should be free from frequently traversed paths (such as corridors) to avoid aura disruption caused by people moving around, affecting work efficiency. If space is limited, the desk angle can be adjusted or partitions used to divide the area.

  5. Stay away from electromagnetic radiation sources to protect health
Office chairs should be kept at least 1 meter away from large appliances such as copiers, fax machines, and routers to reduce the potential impact of electromagnetic waves on the human body. Long-term exposure to high-intensity electromagnetic fields can cause symptoms such as fatigue and headaches. It is recommended to place appliances in a separate area and ventilate regularly.

  6. Maintain an appropriate distance from the wall to balance the aura
The distance between the seat and the rear wall should be moderate; being too close can create a sense of oppression, while being too far can lead to a scattered aura. Generally, it is recommended to leave a space of 30-50 centimeters to ensure stability and prevent energy loss. If the rear is an open space, bookshelves or cabinets can be placed to enhance support.

  7. Match the distance from the door to the hierarchical level
The higher the position, the farther the seat should be from the door to reflect authority and focus. Ordinary employees' seats can be closer to the entrance but should avoid facing the door directly. Additionally, seats should avoid being cut by asymmetrical walkways or seats, as this may affect interpersonal harmony.
