Office Chair Not Rotating
If your office chair is not rotating, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

1. Check and clean the wheels and remove any foreign objects
Tilt or lay the chair down and inspect each wheel's rotation individually. If a wheel is obstructed, it may be due to hair, threads, pet fur, or carpet fibers wrapped around it. Use tweezers, the tip of scissors, or a crochet hook to carefully remove any็ผ (entangled) objects, ensuring there are no obstructions inside the wheel. Also, check the floor condition; thick or rough carpets can increase friction, making rotation difficult. Temporarily move the chair to a smooth surface for testing.
2. Check and tighten screws and connectors
Prolonged use may cause the screws on the chair's bottom connectors to loosen. Focus on checking the connecting screws between the five-star base and the central swivel plate (usually located at the bottom of the plate) as well as the fixing screws for the wheel mounts. Use a Phillips or Allen screwdriver to tighten each screw one by one, applying moderate force to avoid stripping the threads or damaging the structure due to over-tightening.
3. Lubricate the swivel plate bearings
The ball bearings and sliding grooves inside the swivel plate may become rusty and stuck due to dried-up grease or dust intrusion. Locate the gap between the swivel plate and the base, spray WD-40 multi-purpose lubricant into it, and rotate the chair back and forth to help the lubricant spread. Wait a few minutes, then wipe off any excess oil and test if the rotation has become smooth again.
4. Check if the wheels are damaged
Observe the surface of the wheels for wear, cracks, or deformation. If the wheels are severely worn, replace them with new, compatible wheels (available at hardware stores or online shopping platforms). When replacing, pull the old wheels off the axles and install the new ones securely to prevent instability and further jamming.
5. Check the condition of the axles
If the wheel axles are loose or rusty, rotation may also be obstructed. First, check if the fixing screws on the axles are loose and tighten them before testing. If the axles are rusty, spray rust remover on the rusted areas, wait for the rust to dissolve, then drip lubricating oil to reduce friction between the axles and wheels, restoring rotation flexibility.
6. Check if the gas lift is normal
A bent or deformed gas lift can cause abnormal overall structure of the chair, affecting its rotation function. Observe the appearance of the gas lift for any obvious damage. If there is an issue, contact a professional repair technician for replacement. Do not attempt to disassemble it yourself to avoid safety hazards caused by improper operation.
