Office Chairs: Quality and Safety Issues Cannot Be Ignored
Office chairs have quality and safety issues that cannot be ignored.

I. High Failure Rate in Spot Checks
According to the spot check results of office chairs released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, among the 90 batches of products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and cities, 21 batches were unqualified, with a failure rate of 23.3%. This data directly reflects that there is a considerable proportion of substandard products in the office chair market, indicating that quality and safety issues are not isolated phenomena but have a certain degree of universality.
II. Multiple Types of Safety Hazards
- Structural Safety Issues: Some office chairs have problems such as base fractures and caster detachments. The base is a key component that supports the entire chair. If it fractures, the chair will lose its balance, and the user may fall and get injured. Caster detachment will affect the chair's mobility, and sudden detachment during use may also cause the user to lose their balance and fall.
- Excessive Harmful Substances: Excessive formaldehyde is another serious problem with office chairs. Formaldehyde is a harmful gas, and long-term exposure can cause damage to the human respiratory tract and skin, affecting the user's health.
- Extreme Safety Risks: Some low-quality office chairs may explode or catch fire due to substandard manufacturing processes. Such problems are more common in products purchased at low prices or through non-formal channels, seriously threatening the user's life safety.
III. Prominent Hidden Dangers in Pneumatic Rods
Hidden dangers in pneumatic rods are the main cause of office chair explosions. Some manufacturers use low-quality materials to make pneumatic rods to control costs. Under extreme conditions, such as high temperatures or excessive squeezing, the pneumatic rods may suddenly fail or even explode, causing great harm to the user.
IV. Frequent Recall Incidents
There have also been multiple recall incidents of office chairs in the market, with problems mainly concentrated on backrest fractures and bolt failures. The backrest is an important part of an office chair that provides comfortable support and ensures the user's safety. A backrest fracture will cause the user to lose support and easily fall. Bolt failure may cause the connections between the chair's components to loosen, affecting the overall stability of the chair and also leading to the user falling and getting injured.
