Hazards of Napping on an Office Chair
There are multiple hazards associated with napping on an office chair, including the following main points:

Compression of Shoulder and Neck Blood Vessels: When napping on an office chair with improper posture, the carotid and vertebral arteries in the neck can be stretched and compressed. This directly obstructs the blood supply channels to the brain, causing a sharp drop in blood flow velocity. After waking up, individuals often experience symptoms such as a stiff neck, numb hands, and dizziness. Moreover, if this improper sleeping posture is maintained for more than 30 minutes over a long period, it can further exacerbate changes in the physiological curvature of the cervical spine, potentially leading to cervical spine issues such as cervical spondylosis.
Increased Lumbar Spine Pressure: Napping in a seated position subjects the lumbar spine to greater pressure than when lying down normally. Under normal circumstances, the pressure on the lumbar spine is relatively low when lying down, whereas in a seated position, the body's weight is concentrated on the lumbar region. If the lumbar support of the office chair is inadequate and fails to provide sufficient support for the lumbar spine, the pressure on the intervertebral discs will further increase, potentially triggering lumbar spine diseases such as lumbar disc herniation.
Insufficient Blood Supply to the Brain: Sitting posture can affect the blood circulation to the brain, leading to insufficient oxygen supply. Napping is supposed to be a time for the body and brain to rest and recover, but after napping in a seated position on an office chair, individuals may feel even more fatigued and may even experience headaches, which are manifestations of insufficient blood supply to the brain.
Impaired Memory: Improper napping methods may interfere with normal sleep rhythms. Sleep is crucial for the formation and consolidation of memory, and the hippocampus plays a key role in the memory process. Improper napping can affect the function of the hippocampus, thereby impacting the formation and consolidation of memory and leading to a decline in memory.
Muscle Soreness and Blood Circulation Issues: Napping in a fixed position on an office chair for a long time can keep the muscles of the lower back in a tense state. Lying down for more than 30 minutes may trigger lower back soreness. Additionally, if the legs are left hanging or crossed during napping, it can compress the blood vessels in the lower limbs, affecting blood circulation and increasing the risk of blood clot formation.
Risk of Spinal Deformation: Maintaining an improper seated posture for napping over a long period can cause the spine to deform due to continuous pressure. Compared to napping face down, napping in a seated position on an office chair is more likely to lead to spinal deformation issues such as hunchback.
