Office Chair Modification Tutorial
Admin October 17, 2026
The office chair modification tutorial includes multiple methods, and you can choose the appropriate plan according to your needs.

Upgrading a Passenger Seat to an Office Chair
- Customizing a Steel Plate: First, customize a steel plate with 16 reserved holes. Ten of these holes are for securing the seat, and six are for attaching the armrests (if armrests are not needed, only 10 holes are required).
- Installing the Seat: Connect the steel plate to the seat using six screws, then use four more screws to form the structure of a normal office chair. After installation, tighten the nuts to ensure a secure connection.
- Installing Casters: Attach casters to the bottom of the chair for easy mobility.
- Connecting Power: Prepare a battery and an adapter. Align the battery with the adapter on the seat to connect the power, enabling the seat to function normally, such as having adjustment features.
Repairing and Modifying an Office Swivel Chair's Armrest Surface to Have a Real Wood Texture
- Preparing Tools and Materials: Rosewood offcuts, a coping saw (or handsaw), a hand plane, sandpaper, a screwdriver, a utility knife, a pencil, wood wax oil (or paint), wood glue, etc.
- Disassembling the Armrest: Carefully remove the armrest surface, taking care not to damage the armrest support plate for subsequent installation.
- Drawing the Model: Use thick cardboard to draw the thickness contour of the old armrest surface, cut out the contour pattern, place the patterned cardboard on a small square piece of wood, and draw the contour with a pencil.
- Assembling the Armrest Board: Use a coping saw (or handsaw) to cut the wood along the contour. Apply glue to the cut pieces of wood, clamp them tightly with woodworking clamps, and wait 24 hours for the glue to dry before removing the clamps.
- Creating the Shape: Flatten the back of the assembled armrest surface with a small hand plane, sand the bottom with coarse sandpaper, draw the size contour using the old armrest surface (support plate), then use a coping saw to cut out the shape of the armrest surface. Finally, install it on the armrest and apply wood wax oil or paint to enhance the real wood texture.
Replacing Adjustable Armrests and Silent Casters on an Old Ergonomic Chair
- Replacing the Casters: Simply install silent casters. First, lay the chair down, pull off the old casters. If a woman doesn't have enough strength, she can use a rolling pin to tap the side of the five-star base facing the ground to make the casters fall off. Silent casters purchased online average 15 yuan each, and the posts are of a universal size. After installation, the chair can move more smoothly.
- Replacing the Armrests: If the size of the purchased adjustable armrests doesn't fit, you can modify the hole positions so that they can be installed on the old ergonomic chair.
