Protrusion of Metal Plate on Office Chair
The repair method for the protrusion of the metal plate on an office chair should be selected based on the degree of protrusion. For minor protrusions, you can tap them back into place yourself. For severe deformations, it is recommended to contact a professional for repair or replace the parts, while also checking for design flaws to avoid safety hazards.

1. Causes and Risk Assessment
The protrusion of the metal plate on an office chair may be caused by long-term load-bearing deformation, improper installation, or material fatigue. If the metal plate is located in contact areas such as the backrest or armrests, the protruding part may scratch the skin or catch on clothing, posing a safety hazard. It is necessary to first check whether the protruding position affects usage safety, such as whether it is close to areas of human activity or has sharp edges.
2. Selection of Repair Methods
Minor Protrusion: Tapping Reset Method Use a wooden or rubber mallet to gently tap from the edge of the metal plate towards the center, gradually restoring the metal to flatness through vibration. Operation Points: Avoid tapping directly on the highest point of the protrusion to prevent exacerbating the deformation; the tapping force should be even, with an interval of 2-3 seconds between each tap, and observe the rebound of the metal plate. This method is suitable for metal plates with a thickness of โค3mm and a deformation height of <5mm.
Moderate Deformation: Flame Straightening Method For metal plates with a thickness of >3mm, use an oxy-acetylene flame to heat the protruding part to 600-800ยฐC (appearing dark red), with the heating area extending 20-30mm beyond the deformed area. Immediately apply pressure with a flat-headed tool (such as a steel plate) after heating, and release the pressure after the metal cools. Precautions: Wear protective gloves and goggles; excessive heating temperature may cause metal embrittlement, so strictly control the time (single heating โค30 seconds).
Severe Damage: Mechanical Repair or Replacement If the metal plate has cracks or fractures, use a hydraulic press or special fixture for mechanical straightening, or directly replace it with a new part. It is recommended to contact the office chair manufacturer to obtain original parts to ensure matching dimensions and materials.
3. Safety and Preventive Measures
After repair, check whether the edges of the metal plate are smooth, and sand them if necessary to remove burrs. If there are design flaws in the metal plate (such as no protective cover on the protruding part), rubber or plastic corner guards can be added to reduce usage risks. During long-term use, avoid hanging heavy objects on the metal plate or frequently squeezing it, and regularly check whether the fixing screws are loose to extend the lifespan of the parts.
