Cleaning Dirty Mesh on Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

When the mesh on office chairs is dirty, follow these steps for cleaning:

  1. Initial Dust Removal
Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristle brush attachment to thoroughly remove surface dust and particles along the mesh texture. For deeply embedded sand or dirt, gently brush in one direction with a soft-bristle brush. Avoid using hard-bristle brushes or excessive force to prevent damage to the mesh fiber structure. If the dust is loosely attached, you can also assist its removal by lightly patting the chair surface.

  2. Spot Cleaning
For localized stains, dilute a neutral detergent in a 1:10 ratio and spray it onto the stained area, or cover the stain with a small amount of foam cleaner for about 10 seconds. Then, wipe the area in a circular motion with a clean, soft cloth. For stubborn stains, allow them to sit for 1-5 minutes to let the cleaner break down organic matter before wiping. Avoid scraping directly, as this can deform the mesh.

  3. Deep Cleaning
If the mesh is heavily soiled overall, dip a soft-bristle brush into diluted soapy water (water temperature not exceeding 40ยฐC) and gently brush along the mesh holes. Be mindful of controlling the force to prevent fiber breakage. After brushing, immediately wipe away any residual cleaner with a slightly damp soft cloth, then use a dry cloth to absorb excess moisture and prevent water stains from penetrating the internal padding.

  4. Professional Equipment Treatment (Optional)
For commercial office chairs or mesh that has not been cleaned for a long time, use a steam cleaner and high-temperature washing machine alternately for extraction cleaning. Maintain a distance of 15-20 cm between the equipment nozzle and the chair surface during operation. Complete at least 2 extraction cycles, and simultaneously use a water extractor to remove dirty water. This can shorten drying time and reduce bacterial growth.

  5. Drying and Maintenance
After cleaning, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or using a hot air blower for forced drying, as this can cause the mesh fabric to fade and become brittle. After drying, you can spray an appropriate amount of fabric anti-static agent to reduce dust adhesion and extend the cleaning cycle.

Precautions:

  • Before cleaning, confirm the mesh material (such as polyester fiber, nylon, etc.) and avoid using cleaners containing bleach or strong acids and alkalis.
  • Perform vacuum maintenance at least once a month to significantly reduce the frequency of deep cleaning.
  • If the mesh shows signs of damage or reduced elasticity, contact after-sales service promptly for replacement to prevent further damage during cleaning.
