Office Chair Maintenance Methods
Admin October 09, 2026
The maintenance methods for office chairs include daily care and regular maintenance, as detailed below:

Daily Care
Surface Cleaning
- Mesh/Fabric Seat Surfaces: Use a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to clean surface dust weekly, paying special attention to debris in the seams. If stains occur, dilute a neutral cleaner, dampen a soft cloth with it, gently wipe the stain, and then dry the area with a dry cloth to prevent moisture from seeping inside and causing mildew.
- Leather Seat Surfaces: Wipe away dust daily with a dry, soft cloth. Use a slightly damp cloth (dipped in a small amount of water) weekly to clean sweat and oil stains. Apply a specialized leather conditioner every quarter to prevent cracking or fading.
- Plastic/Metal Frames: Wipe away stains with a damp cloth dipped in a small amount of soapy water, then dry with a dry cloth to avoid water spots. If minor rust appears on metal frames, dampen a cotton cloth with white vinegar, wipe the rusted area, and let it sit for 5 minutes before wiping clean.
Usage Habits
- Avoid placing heavy items (such as weights or sharp tools) on the armrests or seat surface to prevent deformation or dents.
- Push or pull the chair gently when moving it to avoid hitting walls or table corners, which could cause frame cracks or wheel damage.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially for leather and fabric seat surfaces, as this can accelerate material aging and fading.
Regular Maintenance
Lubrication of Adjustment Systems
- Gas Lift (Height Adjustment System): If the height adjustment is sluggish, apply 1-2 drops of silicone oil at the connection point between the gas lift and the base. Adjust the height several times to distribute the lubricant evenly. Avoid using cooking oil (which attracts dust and deteriorates easily).
- Tilt/Recline System: Check the tilt adjustment knob on the base. If the adjustment resistance is too high, open the housing (if removable) and apply a small amount of grease to metal components like gears and springs to ensure smooth recline and rebound.
- Armrest Adjustment: If height or forward/backward adjustment is stiff, remove the armrest housing and spray a small amount of lubricant on the adjustment rod and slots to restore flexibility.
Tightening of Connection Components
- Regularly use a Phillips screwdriver or hex wrench to check the following parts: screws connecting the seat surface to the gas lift, bolts securing the base to the gas lift, screws connecting the armrests to the seat surface, and the clips connecting the five-star base to the gas lift. Tighten any loose parts promptly. If a screw is stripped, replace it with a new one of the same size.
Wheel Cleaning
- Regularly clean hair and fibers tangled around the chair wheels to ensure smooth movement and prevent blockages that could cause wheel stalling or damage.
