Office Chair with Low Backrest
If the backrest of your office chair is too low, you can improve it by raising the headrest, strengthening lumbar support, adjusting your sitting posture, or replacing it with a suitable ergonomic chair.

1. Raising the Headrest
If the height of the backrest cannot meet the neck support needs, you can separately install a specialized raised headrest for computer chairs. Such headrests typically adopt ergonomic design and are fixed to the top of the backrest with adjustable brackets. They not only increase the overall height of the backrest but also conform to the physiological curvature of the cervical spine with their curved surfaces, dispersing the pressure exerted by the head's weight on the cervical spine. If there is still a sense of suspension in the neck after raising the headrest, you can place a small pillow made of memory foam between the headrest and the neck to further fill the gap and prevent muscle tension or abnormal intervertebral disc pressure caused by long-term suspension of the cervical spine.
2. Strengthening Lumbar Support
A low backrest may lead to a lack of effective support for the waist, causing the lumbar spine to be in an abnormal posture of anterior convexity or lateral bending. In this case, you can place a cushion between the waist and the backrest, prioritizing saddle-shaped or butterfly-shaped cushions that conform to the curvature of the human lumbar spine. Their concave design can precisely support the L3-L5 segments of the lumbar spine and reduce intervertebral disc pressure. If the height of the cushion is insufficient, you can fold a towel and place it under the cushion to adjust the support height by stacking, ensuring that the waist and the backrest form a physiological angle of 100ยฐ-110ยฐ to prevent lumbar muscle strain.
3. Dynamic Sitting Posture Adjustment
Even with a limited backrest height, you can reduce physical strain by maintaining a proper sitting posture. Keep your upper body straight, with your earlobes, shoulder peaks, and hip joints on the same vertical line; keep your feet flat on the ground, avoiding crossing your legs or stretching them forward, which can cause pelvic retroversion; make minor adjustments every 30-45 minutes, such as sitting up straight or leaning back by 10ยฐ-15ยฐ, to disperse pressure by changing the direction of spinal force. If the height of your office desk is adjustable, you can raise the desktop to a state where your elbows are bent at 90ยฐ, reducing compensatory force exerted by the shoulders and neck.
4. Replacing with an Ergonomic Chair
If your current chair cannot meet your needs through accessory adjustments, consider replacing it with a multi-dimensionally adjustable ergonomic chair. For example, the SumLush Xia Cai Mu Fit CC ergonomic chair features a ZeroG Flow dynamic lumbar support system that combines a pneumatic rod with elastic mesh fabric to dynamically adapt to the lumbar positions of users of different heights. When the user leans back or forward, the lumbar support automatically adjusts its support angle; the BackFit four-way back-waist fitting technology supports an adjustment range of 5cm up and down and 3cm front and back, accurately matching waist shapes and sitting posture changes, addressing the issue of insufficient backrest support from the root.
