The Lever of the Office Chair is Loose

Admin October 11, 2026

If the lever of the office chair is loose, it can be repaired by checking the screws, filling in gaskets, and inspecting the connecting rod.

Check the Screws

The connection points between the lever and the seat or chair frame are usually fixed with screws. Loose or missing screws are common causes of lever looseness. First, carefully examine the screw status at these connection points. If any screws are loose, use an appropriate screwdriver or wrench to tighten them. During tightening, be mindful of applying moderate force to avoid stripping the screws or damaging the connecting components. If a screw is stripped, meaning its threads can no longer engage tightly with the screw hole, replace it with a screw of the same model. If a matching screw is not immediately available, try inserting a piece of rubber between the screw and the screw hole. The rubber increases friction, allowing the screw to be temporarily fixed and reducing lever wobble.

Fill in Gaskets

Observe the connection points between the lever and the seat or chair frame. If there are gaps, this can also cause the lever to become loose. To address this, find suitable gaskets to fill the gaps. Rubber gaskets are a common choice due to their good elasticity and wear resistance, which allow them to adapt to shape changes at the connection points. Place the rubber gasket in the gap, ensuring it fits snugly against the connecting components. This effectively reduces lever wobble and enhances connection stability. When selecting gaskets, ensure their thickness and size match the gaps; gaskets that are too large or too small will not achieve the desired filling effect.

Inspect the Connecting Rod

Quality issues with the lever (connecting rod) itself, such as bending or deformation, can also lead to looseness. For slightly bent connecting rods, try manually straightening them. During straightening, apply force slowly and evenly to avoid breaking the rod. If the connecting rod is severely deformed and cannot be restored to its normal shape through manual straightening, it will need to be replaced with a new one. When replacing, pay special attention to ensuring that the length and diameter of the new connecting rod match the original components; otherwise, it may result in an insecure installation or incompatibility with other parts, affecting the normal use of the office chair.
