Office Chair Leg Broken

Admin October 09, 2026

After an office chair leg breaks, you can choose to repair it, handle it without repair, or respond rationally from a cultural perspective based on the breakage situation, with priority given to ensuring safety in use.

I. Repair Methods

  1. Replacing the Casters: If only a single caster is damaged, first confirm the caster type (threaded or push-in). Use tools such as a screwdriver and pliers to remove the old caster, taking care to retain the fixing components (such as the retaining clip), and then install a matching new caster. The new caster should match the size and load-bearing capacity of the original chair's casters to avoid secondary damage due to incompatibility.
  2. Replacing the Five-Star Chair Base: If the entire footrest is broken or deformed, first remove the old footrest. Some chairs are fixed with retaining clips; you can use needle-nose pliers to remove the clips and then separate the footrest from the chair body. If it is a knock-in connection, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the connection to loosen it. When purchasing a new footrest, ensure that the model and material (such as nylon or metal) match the original chair. Install it following the reverse steps and check if the casters rotate smoothly.
  3. Temporary Fixing: As an emergency solution, you can use a wooden stick to tie up the broken part (such as the crossbeam of the footrest), or use wood glue to bond wooden footrests. For metal footrests, you can use nails for temporary reinforcement. However, this method is only suitable for short-term use, and you should replace or repair it as soon as possible to avoid the risk of falling due to insufficient fixing.

II. Non-Repair Handling Suggestions

  1. Safety Inspection: Immediately stop using the broken chair to prevent falls due to structural instability. At the same time, check other furniture (such as tables, chairs, and cabinets) for similar hazards, especially old or frequently loaded furniture, and reinforce or replace it in a timely manner.
  2. Evaluation for Replacement: If the chair is inexpensive (such as less than 200 yuan), has been in use for more than 5 years, or is severely damaged (such as multiple breaks or metal fatigue), the repair cost may be close to or exceed the price of a new chair, and it is recommended to replace it directly. When purchasing a new chair, prioritize products that have passed safety certifications such as BIFMA to ensure load-bearing capacity and stability.

III. Cultural Perspective Reference

In traditional folklore, a broken chair leg may be regarded as an ominous sign, symbolizing the shaking of family stability, health, or the foundation of a career. However, such claims lack scientific basis, and there is no need for excessive panic. You can view it as a reminder to promptly address the chair problem and take this opportunity to check for safety hazards in your living environment, maintaining order in your life with a positive attitude.

Summary: Prioritize solving the chair breakage problem through repair or replacement to ensure safety in use. If conditions do not allow, temporarily fix it and deal with it as soon as possible. At the same time, view cultural implications rationally and avoid being influenced by psychological pressure in your judgment.
