Office Chair Leather Chair Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair leather chair can be carried out according to the following steps, requiring a combination of tools and standardized operations to ensure safety and smooth subsequent installation:

I. Preparation Before Disassembly

  1. Tool Preparation: You will need a rubber mallet (for tapping loose components), a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver (for removing screws), a wrench (for handling metal connectors), and large scissors or diagonal pliers (for clearing debris or prying open clips).
  2. Environment Setup: Choose a spacious area with a flat floor, and lay down soft cloth or cardboard to prevent scratches on the chair surface. If the chair has a hydraulic system, avoid operating in humid environments to prevent rusting.
  3. Marking and Recording: Use your phone to take photos of the details of each connection point, or use a marker to label the positions of parts on the components for easy alignment during reassembly.

II. Core Component Disassembly Steps

  1. Caster Removal

    • Pull the wheels outward with force directly. If they are stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver or diagonal pliers into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg to pry them open.
    • If the wheels are entangled with hair or debris, turn the chair upside down, and use long scissors or curved tweezers to clean them before attempting removal again.
  2. Gas Lift Separation

    • Turn the chair upside down to expose the connection point between the gas lift and the five-star base. Use a rubber mallet to tap the lower part of the connection (avoiding the hydraulic oil area) to loosen the locking collar.
    • If the connection is too tight, apply a small amount of cooking oil to the interface for lubrication, and let it sit for 1-2 hours before tapping again. Avoid violent disassembly to prevent hydraulic oil leakage.
  3. Seat Cushion Disassembly

    • After removing the gas lift, turn the chair upside down, and use a rubber mallet to tap evenly around the metal rim at the bottom of the seat cushion to loosen the base.
    • Use a screwdriver to remove the screws connecting the seat cushion to the chassis. Continue tapping the metal chassis lightly while holding the hydraulic rod with one hand and stepping on the chassis with your foot to separate them slowly.
  4. Backrest Removal

    • Most backrests are fixed with screws. Use a screwdriver to find and remove the screws at the connection point between the backrest and the seat cushion.
    • For special models (such as the Livorno S02 executive chair), you need to disconnect three connecting wires from the backrest. Record the wire sequence during operation to prevent installation errors.

III. Special Scenario Handling

  • Old Chair Refurbishment: If you need to replace the chair leather, you can peel off the old leather and directly re-cover it with diamond-patterned leather. Be sure to retain the original foam layer to maintain comfort.
  • DIY Leather Replacement: Use pliers to open the wire at the bottom of the seat cushion, remove the old foam, cut new leather of the same size as the original, sew it, and then re-fix the wire and reinstall the seat cushion.

IV. Precautions

  • Wear gloves when disassembling the gas lift to prevent hydraulic oil from splashing and causing injury.
  • Store all metal components separately after disassembly to avoid losing screws or connectors.
  • If the chair has been in use for a long time, some plastic clips may be aged. Handle them gently during disassembly to prevent breakage.
