Office Chair ING

Admin October 09, 2026

"ing" is an office chair designed and developed by Japan's KOKUYO Corporation, which won the silver award at the 4th DIA China Design Intelligence Award.

Design Philosophy and Objectives

The design philosophy of the "ing" office chair focuses on addressing health issues caused by prolonged sitting. In modern office settings, people often maintain a seated position for extended periods, leading to sub-health conditions such as back pain. This chair aims to create a new sitting experience, improve the physical condition of prolonged sitters, and enhance office comfort and health levels.

Unique Design Features

A notable feature of the "ing" office chair is the double-layer sliding mechanism beneath the seat. This design enables 360ยฐๅ…จๆ–นไฝ (360-degree) free rocking in all directions with a smooth motion. It sensitively adjusts to the user's movements and posture changes, promoting a natural S-shaped spine alignment, helping to maintain the spine's normal physiological curvature, and reducing spinal pressure.

Inspiration for Development

The inspiration for its development came from Kinoshita Yojiro's experience of traditional "sitting" culture in a Zen temple six years ago. His experience in the temple made him realize that the design of office chairs should closely revolve around the core purpose of facilitating work, rather than merely pursuing appearance or form. This philosophy permeates the entire design process of the "ing" office chair, making it more aligned with actual office needs.

User Experience and Effects

When using the "ing" office chair, if a user wants to relax their body, they can place their arms on the fixed armrests and rock side to side. This simple action can effectively relieve physical fatigue. To stimulate brain activity, users can freely rock their bodies. Studies have shown that such rocking motions can activate the brain's alpha and beta waves, helping to enhance mental agility and creativity.

Derivative Product: "ingCloud"

Additionally, there is an office chair named "ingCloud." It is an ergonomic office chair that employs a self-adjusting mechanical structure and clear operational logic. The gravity-based sliding mechanism interacts with the user's weight, replacing traditional spring mechanisms, allowing the seat, backrest, and armrests to move in sync. Its 3D mesh material closely conforms to the body's curves, achieving even pressure distribution and continuously responding to changes in posture. It provides ergonomic support without manual adjustments and has won the Red Dot Award.
