Office Chair in Backpack

Admin October 12, 2026

In most cases, it is not feasible to fit an ordinary office chair into a backpack; only some foldable and lightweight office chairs may be possible under specific conditions. There are various types of office chairs, including traditional office chairs with wheels and foldable office chairs. The feasibility of fitting them into backpacks varies greatly depending on the type. The following is an analysis from different perspectives:

In terms of size matching: The diameter of a common foldable chair after being folded is usually between 30 and 50 centimeters. The height of an ordinary backpack is generally between 40 and 50 cm, and the main compartment depth is about 20 to 30 cm. If the office chair is a foldable model, its folded diameter needs to be less than 80% of the backpack opening to ensure stable support. However, traditional office chairs with wheels cannot be folded and are relatively large in size. Their dimensions far exceed the capacity of an ordinary backpack, making it impossible to fit them in.

In terms of material and weight matching: It is recommended that ordinary backpacks made of Oxford cloth or nylon carry loads of no more than 3 kg, while canvas backpacks can bear loads of about 5 kg. If a foldable and lightweight office chair is made of lightweight materials such as aluminum alloy, its weight may be within 3 kg, making it possible to fit it into a backpack. However, if it is a foldable office chair with a steel frame structure, its weight is often between 4 and 8 kg, which is difficult for an ordinary backpack to bear. Traditional office chairs with wheels are usually even heavier, far exceeding the load-bearing capacity of backpacks. When loading, it is also necessary to ensure that the reinforced stitching at the bottom of the backpack is aligned with the center of gravity of the chair. For long-term carrying, it is advisable to choose an outdoor backpack with a built-in carrying system.

In terms of special shape handling: Cylindrical foldable chairs can be mixed with books to enhance stability. Triangular foldable chairs are recommended to have their legs disassembled and wrapped separately. The X-shaped joint parts of most foldable chairs should be isolated with soft cloth. However, traditional office chairs with wheels have complex shapes with wheels, armrests, and other components, making it impossible to perform such special handling to fit them into a backpack. If an ordinary backpack cannot meet the requirements, special storage solutions can be considered, such as backpack-style foldable chairs with built-in carrying systems, foldable chair storage bags + luggage straps for external hanging, etc. However, most of these solutions are designed for foldable chairs and may not be applicable to all office chairs.
