Hunchback Problem When Sitting on an Office Chair
Admin October 11, 2026
The problem of hunchback when sitting on an office chair can be improved by adjusting daily habits and doing simple exercises.

Adjust Daily Habits
- Adjust Equipment Height: The height of the computer stand should be appropriate. Ensure that your eyes are level with the center of the computer screen, and the top of the screen is level with or slightly lower than your eyes. This reduces body leaning forward and hunchback caused by improper viewing angles. When using a mobile phone, try to hold it up to eye level to avoid looking down at it for long periods, reducing pressure on the neck and back.
- Maintain Correct Sitting Posture: When sitting, keep your feet flat on the ground, with your knees at the same level as your hips. Avoid crossing your legs. At the same time, choose an office chair with good lumbar support to keep your waist in a natural curve, providing stable support for the spine and reducing the likelihood of hunchback.
- Take Regular Breaks: Get up and move around every once in a while, such as getting a glass of water or going to the restroom, and walk for a few minutes to relax your body. Sitting in the same position for long periods can cause muscle fatigue and lead to posture deformation. Taking regular breaks can relieve muscle tension and maintain good physical condition.
Do Simple Office Exercises
- Wall Standing: Find a wall and press your heels, calves, buttocks, back, and back of your head tightly against it. Tighten your abdominal and buttock muscles and hold for a few minutes. This exercise helps adjust your body posture, keeping all parts in the correct position and enhancing balance and stability.
- Chair Stretching: Sit on a chair with your back straight, cross your hands behind your back, and slowly raise your arms to feel the stretch in your shoulders and back. This exercise can relieve muscle tension in the shoulders and back, enhance muscle flexibility, and improve hunchback problems.
- Shoulder and Back Activation Exercise: Sit on a chair, hold the edges of the chair with your hands, lean your body slightly backward, and then use the strength of your shoulders and back to pull your body up and slowly lower it down. This exercise activates the muscles in your shoulders and back, enhances muscle strength, and helps maintain correct sitting posture.
- Thoracic Spine Stretching: Locate your thoracic spine, kneel down, and wrap your hands around the back of your neck. Press your elbows against a bench, sit on your buttocks, and when you reach the lowest point, lift your head and take deep breaths. You can continue to press your body down a bit further. Hold for 30 to 40 seconds per set and do three sets. This exercise stretches the thoracic spine, improves thoracic kyphosis, and thus reduces hunchback.
