Office Chair Height Adjustment Methods
There are mainly three methods for adjusting the height of an office chair, and you can choose the appropriate one based on the actual situation:

1. Adjustment via hand-operated control device This is the most common height adjustment method, suitable for most pneumatic height-adjustable chairs. If you are in a sitting position, first look for the control lever or knob located under or on the side of the chair. For some models, you need to pull the control lever upward to raise the seat and press it downward to lower the height; for others, you need to turn the knob for adjustment. If you are unsure about the specific operation, refer to the user manual that comes with the chair or try each lever function one by one (note that only make slight adjustments of a few centimeters at a time to avoid imbalance caused by rapid height changes). After adjustment, return the control lever to its original position to lock the height. For pneumatic models, you can achieve fine adjustment by repeatedly pushing the lever up and down until you reach a comfortable height.
2. Adjustment from a standing position If adjustment in a sitting position is restricted (for example, the control lever is in an inconvenient location), you can use the standing adjustment method. First, place the chair in an open area, stand in front of the chair, and hold the backrest or armrests with both hands. Adjust the seat height indirectly by moving your body weight up and down. The adjustment goal is that when you sit down, the front end of the chair is just below your knees, ensuring that your feet can rest flat on the ground and your thighs are parallel to the ground. This method is suitable for scenarios where precise matching with the desk height is required, and it can prevent fatigue caused by a chair that is too high or too low after sitting for a long time.
3. Adjustment by replacing the pneumatic rod If the height adjustment function of the chair completely fails (for example, it cannot rebound or is stuck), it may be due to the aging of the internal seals of the pneumatic rod or the leakage of hydraulic oil. In this case, you need to replace the pneumatic rod:
- Purchase accessories: The price of a pneumatic rod is about 30 yuan. You can buy a product that matches the original model through an e-commerce platform (be sure to measure the length and diameter of the rod body).
- Remove the old rod: Turn the chair upside down, step on the base with both feet to fix it, and shake the seat with your hands to separate the pneumatic rod from the base; gently tap the top ring of the pneumatic rod with a hammer to remove it from the base.
- Install the new rod: Insert the bottom of the new pneumatic rod into the hole in the base and ensure that the catch is fixed; align the seat with the top of the pneumatic rod and press it down, and finally sit on it and apply pressure to make the connection fit tightly. Note: Wear gloves when replacing to avoid scratches from metal parts; if the operation is difficult, it is recommended to contact a professional repair person.
Operation tips: Before adjustment, check whether the chair structure is stable and avoid operating on a slippery floor to prevent slipping; after replacing the pneumatic rod, test the smoothness of the height adjustment to ensure there is no air leakage or abnormal noise.
