Office Chair Height Adjustment Instructions
Admin October 22, 2026
The height adjustment operation of an office chair should be carried out according to its type, with the core being to adjust the height by controlling the gas spring or electric system. Attention should be paid to safety and ergonomic fit during operation.

1. Types of Height-Adjustable Chairs and Their Working Principles
The height adjustment function of office chairs mainly relies on two technologies:
- Gas Spring (Gas Cylinder): Filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas inside, it controls the gas flow through a sealed piston structure to achieve height adjustment. When the control lever is pressed, the gas flows inside the gas spring, changing the seat height.
- Electric Height Adjustment System: High-end models use a motor-driven push rod, which is adjusted via a control panel or buttons, supporting more precise positioning and memory functions.
2. Adjustment Methods
1. Steps for Adjusting a Gas Spring Height-Adjustable Chair
- Locate the Control Device: The adjustment lever is usually located on the right side under the seat, with some models featuring buttons or levers.
- Operation Process:
- Stand straight or slightly lift your body to reduce the pressure on the seat and avoid excessive resistance during operation;
- Pull or press the control lever while applying downward pressure to lower the seat; if raising is needed, maintain your body weight and release the control lever;
- After adjusting to the target height, release the control lever, and the seat will automatically lock.
- Special Models: Some gas spring chairs require repeated pumping of the lever (up and down) to achieve gradual height adjustment.
2. Steps for Adjusting an Electric Height-Adjustable Chair
- Select the target height via the control panel or remote control, and the motor-driven push rod completes the adjustment. Some models support preset height memory functions.
3. Precautions
- Operation Safety: Adjust the height slowly to avoid the risk of body imbalance or collision caused by the chair descending rapidly.
- Stability Check: Before adjustment, ensure that the seat is not tilted, the casters are locked, or there are abnormalities such as gas spring leakage.
- Troubleshooting: If the height cannot be adjusted, it may be due to gas spring failure (such as leakage or seal damage) or a stuck control lever, requiring professional repair.
4. Ergonomic Fit
- Height Standard: After adjustment, it should meet the 'three 90-degree angles': thighs and lower legs, upper arms and forearms, and the body and thighs should all be at 90 degrees, with the eyes level with the center of the monitor and feet flat on the ground.
- Multi-Directional Adjustment: High-end models support dynamic adjustments such as the backrest angle, armrest height, and lumbar support position, which need to be adjusted in real-time according to changes in sitting posture to reduce fatigue.
5. Maintenance Suggestions
Regularly inspect components such as the gas spring, casters, and screws, avoiding heavy impacts or prolonged overload use. If the gas spring makes a hissing sound or the adjustment is stuck, stop using it immediately and replace it.
