Office Chair Gasket Installation

Admin October 12, 2026

The installation of gaskets for office chairs should be carried out according to the specific model and structure, with core steps including confirming the type, installing in order, addressing common issues, and using temporary substitutes if necessary.

I. Confirming the Gasket Type and Installation Position Office chairs commonly use two types of gaskets: flat gaskets and spring washers. Flat gaskets are used to increase the contact area and protect surfaces, while spring washers are used to prevent loosening. If the screw is screwed directly into a threaded hole (without a nut), the gasket should be placed below the screw head, with the flat gasket on the bottom and the spring washer on top (close to the screw head). For example, when installing the backrest of the X360 sponge-style computer chair, the gasket should be placed over the screw, and then fixed with three short, thick screws. When connecting the backrest and the chassis tail plate of the C300 model, the gasket should be placed into the screw, and then fixed with an M8*20 screw and an 8-mm gasket.

II. Common Installation Issues and Solutions

  1. Incompatible Hole Diameter: Check if the inner hole of the gasket matches the diameter of the screw. If it is too small, replace the gasket.
  2. Screw Not Aligned with Hole: First, manually screw it in a few turns to ensure smooth threading, and then tighten it with a tool. If necessary, use a screwdriver to gently pry the gasket into alignment.
  3. Soft Material of Connected Parts or Worn Hole Position: Try using a thicker screw, wrapping with Teflon tape, or using thread-locking adhesive for fixation.
  4. Narrow Installation Space: Use tweezers or a magnetic screwdriver to assist in positioning the gasket, or switch to a gasket with a self-adhesive backing.

III. Recommended Operation Process

  1. Remove the relevant components and clean the screw holes and gaskets to avoid impurities affecting the installation.
  2. Refer to the instruction manual or assembly diagram to confirm the gasket type and position to avoid incorrect installation.
  3. Pre-install in the correct order: first place the gasket, align the hole position, and then manually screw in the screw initially to ensure there is no jamming before tightening it with a tool.
  4. If it is still difficult, take photos to record the structure and visit a hardware store to seek matching parts.

IV. Temporary Substitute Solutions If the gasket cannot be installed, rubber rings, small circles cut from old bicycle inner tubes, or wrapping Teflon tape around the threaded section of the screw can be used as substitutes for flat gaskets. However, it should be noted that temporary solutions are only suitable for emergencies. Long-term use may affect stability, and it is recommended to replace the original gasket as soon as possible.
