Office Chair Front and Back Sliding

Admin October 11, 2026

The adjustment methods for the front and back sliding of office chairs vary depending on the type, mainly including ordinary gas spring adjustment, high-end ergonomic chair seat depth adjustment, and some backrest sliding adjustment.

For most ordinary office chairs designed with gas springs, the key to front and back adjustment lies in finding the adjustment lever beneath the seat. During operation, one should first sit steadily and then use their hand to pull up the long lever located at the front underside of the seat. At this point, the locked state of the seat is released, and the body can move the seat forward or backward. After adjusting to the appropriate position, release the adjustment lever, and the seat will be locked in the current position. This adjustment method is simple and straightforward, meeting basic office needs and allowing users to adjust the seat's front and back position according to their sitting posture and space requirements.

The "front and back adjustment" of high-end ergonomic chairs usually refers to seat depth adjustment. The adjustment device is generally located on the left or right underside of the seat cushion and may be a handle, knob, or paddle. Taking pulling the handle as an example, when the handle is operated, the front half of the seat cushion will extend forward or retract backward independently, thereby changing the support point. The adjustment standard is to ensure an appropriate distance between the back of the knee and the edge of the seat cushion, providing comprehensive support for the thigh withoutๅŽ‹่ฟซๆ„Ÿ (pressure). This adjustment method is more precise, better adapting to the physical characteristics of different users and offering a more comfortable sitting experience, especially suitable for those who work for long periods.

Some office chair backrests have a sliding and gliding follow-back function, such as the Sihoo C300 Second Generation Lite. These chairs have a switch on the backrest. When the switch is opened and not in the lowest gear, the backrest can slide within a certain range. When leaning back, the backrest can dynamically follow the waist, providing better lumbar support. However, when the reclining angle is too large, the back half may still deviate from the waist and fail to fully fit it. This design improves the chair's comfort and functionality to a certain extent, but one should also pay attention to controlling the reclining angle during use.
