Where is the Office Chair Foreign Trade Heading?

Admin October 19, 2026

The foreign trade of office chairs is undergoing structural adjustments, facing the pain of transformation but still presenting development opportunities, with emerging markets, cross-border e-commerce, product upgrades, and corporate strategic transformations being the main directions.

Emerging Markets Becoming the Main Force for Growth: Demand in traditional markets such as the United States has declined significantly, with China's share of office chair imports in the U.S. market dropping from 68.4% in 2018 to 16.4% in 2025, and a large number of orders shifting to Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam. However, emerging markets have shown remarkable performance. Data from Alibaba.com indicates that orders from France have surged by 125% year-on-year, the demand for high-end office chairs in Germany has increased by 40%, the renovation of office buildings in Italy has driven the procurement of height-adjustable desks by over 60%, orders from Saudi Arabia have grown by 40%, those from Chile have soared by 70%, and the United Arab Emirates has ranked among the top five buyers on the platform. The demand for office chairs in these markets is growing rapidly, providing new market spaces for enterprises.

Increasing Importance of Cross-border E-commerce Channels: In 2025, China's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume reached 2.8 trillion yuan, a 69.7% increase from 2020. Online channels have shifted from being supplementary to becoming the core growth engine for office furniture enterprises. Cross-border e-commerce has broken down geographical barriers and reduced transaction costs, enabling enterprises to directly reach global consumers and providing new sales channels and development opportunities for office chair foreign trade.

Simultaneous Product Upgrades: In 2025, China's export volume of ergonomic chairs reached 4.83 billion yuan, accounting for 54.1% of global exports in the same category; exports of electric height-adjustable desks amounted to 5.32 billion yuan, accounting for 41.8% of the global market; and the export share of self-branded office swivel chairs priced over $200 reached 31.4%, a significant increase from 9.2% in 2020. This indicates that Chinese office chair enterprises are transforming from OEM manufacturing to a combination of ODM and OBM, enhancing their market competitiveness by increasing product added value and brand influence.

Accelerated Corporate Strategic Transformations: Some enterprises are avoiding trade friction risks by establishing overseas bases while intensifying self-brand building, upgrading from 'selling products' to 'selling brands and solutions'. For example, Foshan Jielian Furniture Co., Ltd., which has been deeply involved in the office chair industry for 15 years, achieved an export scale of 20 million yuan in 2025 and conservatively estimates a 30% increase in exports in 2026, demonstrating the effectiveness of corporate strategic transformations.
