Office Chair Footrest Removal

Admin October 17, 2026

The removal of an office chair footrest can be carried out by selecting an appropriate method based on the type of footrest. Here are the specific removal steps and precautions:

Removal Methods

  • Removal of Five-Star Footrest
    • Shaking and Lifting Method: Step on the five-star footrest with one foot, grasp both sides of the seat cushion with both hands, shake it left and right while lifting it upwards simultaneously. Repeat this action until it is removed. If this is ineffective, switch to the other two sides of the seat cushion and repeat the operation.
    • Checking the Bottom of the Central Column: Turn the chair upside down and check if there is a flat washer snap ring at the bottom of the central column. If there is, remove the snap ring, pull out the old footrest, and install a new one. If there is no snap ring and the connection between the footrest and the steel column is conical and pressed together by weight, gently tap it with a hammer until the footrest comes off, and then install a new one.
  • Removal of Universal Footrest
    • Preparing Tools: A cross-head screwdriver, a wrench, and if the chair has movable casters, a small hammer is also required.
    • Identifying the Disassembly Parts: An office chair footrest usually consists of three parts: casters, chair leg supports, and connecting bases. It is necessary to identify the specific disassembly parts.
    • Removing the Casters: Turn the chair over, tap the fixed claws at the bottom of the casters with a small hammer to make them pop out, and then remove the casters with a wrench.
    • Removing the Chair Leg Supports: Unscrew the screws between the connecting base and the chair leg supports, and use a wrench to detach the chair leg supports.
    • Removing the Connecting Base: Unscrew the screws between the connecting base and the seat, and use a wrench to detach the connecting base.

Precautions

  • Safety Protection: When removing the casters, avoid the popped-out claws from hurting your fingers. You can use small tools to assist in the operation.
  • Confirming the Screw Status: When removing the chair leg supports or the connecting base, confirm whether the screws in other parts have been removed to prevent affecting the disassembly effect.
  • Controlling the Force: Avoid using excessive force during the disassembly process to prevent damaging the chair components.
  • Recording the Assembly Method: If you are not familiar with the assembly method, take more photos before disassembly for easy subsequent restoration.
  • Gentle Operation: When using a wrench, control the force to avoid scratching the screw heads or damaging the footrest.
  • Lubrication Treatment: If the components are difficult to remove, apply a proper amount of oil, but control the amount to prevent contaminating the floor or causing the chair to slip.
