Office Chair Foot Impact
The office chair foot impact test is a crucial step in evaluating the structural strength, stability, and functionality of chairs. Different standards provide clear specifications for test equipment, procedures, and result evaluation.

BIFMA Standard:
- Test Equipment and Conditions: Use a hemispherical impact head (50mm in diameter), with a test environment temperature of 20โยฑ5โ and humidity of 40%-70%.
- Test Procedures:
- Preload: Apply a pressure of 1334N (300lbf) to the chair foot for 1 minute to simulate long-term usage pressure.
- Impact Location and Frequency: Impact each chair foot 10 times at a point 50mm above the contact point with the ground, with an interval of โฅ10 seconds; the impact energy is 10J for regular chairs and 15J for heavy-duty chairs. Impact the connection point between the chair foot and the seat 5 times with an energy of 5J, focusing on inspecting the strength of the connection structure.
- Result Evaluation:
- Structural Integrity: Chair foot breakage, loose or separated connections are considered unqualified.
- Deformation: The maximum allowable deformation is 10mm for regular chair feet and 15mm for heavy-duty chair feet. Exceeding these limits requires further evaluation.
- Functionality Test: After impact, ensure smooth operation of functions such as height adjustment, rotation, and tilting, without any stuttering or abnormal noises.
International Furniture Federation Standard: A free-fall impact hammer is used to repeatedly strike the seat surface from a specific height and with a specific weight, simulating the dynamic load when a user suddenly sits down or moves. The test focuses on the load-bearing capacity of the connection between the seat and the chassis, as well as the stability of the gas lift. The impact energy, impact points, and frequency are all clearly specified to ensure the safety of the chair in dynamic usage scenarios.
Australian AS/NZS Standard:
- Dynamic Impact: Simulate the impact of a specified weight falling freely from a certain height onto different positions of the chair seat to test the strength of the base and the five-star foot.
- Static Pressure Test: Apply a significant static pressure to the five-star foot to evaluate whether it breaks or undergoes permanent deformation, ensuring that the chair can stably support the user and avoid the risk of tipping over.
The core objectives of different standards are consistent, all aiming to verify the durability and safety of chair feet and connection structures by simulating extreme usage scenarios. The test results directly affect whether the product meets market access requirements and are a key link in ensuring user safety.
