Office Chair Flat Backrest

Admin October 11, 2026

To adjust the backrest of an office chair to a flat position, first check the cable control switch and the small gas cylinder, and take corresponding solutions based on the specific issue.

Cable Control Switch Adjustment Method

The cable control switch is one of the key components for controlling the adjustment of the office chair backrest. When you find that the backrest cannot be adjusted to a flat position, first open the cable control switch and observe whether it automatically closes. If the cable control switch does not close, there may be the following situations:

  • Loose cable control: During use, due to frequent operation or external force pulling, the connecting part of the cable control may become loose. In this case, you can adjust the nut on the cable control to lengthen the cable control by a certain distance, allowing it to close normally and thus restore the adjustment function of the backrest.
  • Broken cable control: If the cable control is subjected to excessive external force impact or ages due to long-term use, it may break. Once the cable control is broken, it cannot transmit the adjustment signal normally, and the backrest cannot be adjusted. In this case, you need to replace the cable control switch with a new one to ensure its normal operation.
  • Disconnected terminal: The terminal of the cable control switch may become disconnected due to long-term use or external force, preventing the normal transmission of the signal. In this case, simply re-attach the disconnected terminal to restore the normal function of the cable control switch and allow the backrest to be adjusted to a flat position.

Small Gas Cylinder Inspection Method

If there is no problem with the cable control switch, then you need to inspect the small gas cylinder. The small gas cylinder is the power source for adjusting the backrest of the office chair, and its working state directly affects the adjustment function of the backrest.

  • Check the air pressure: Gently press the thin end of the gas cylinder with your hand to feel whether there is air pressure. Normally, the gas cylinder should have a certain air pressure to provide sufficient support to keep the backrest stable. If you cannot feel the air pressure, it indicates that the gas cylinder may have malfunctioned.
  • Determine whether replacement is needed: When the gas cylinder has no air pressure, it can easily retract, which means it has lost its normal adjustment function. In this case, you need to replace it with a new small gas cylinder to ensure that the backrest of the office chair can be adjusted to a flat position normally.
