Office Chair Fixation Recommendation

Admin October 11, 2026

The method for fixing an office chair should be selected based on the chair type and the cause of sliding. The specific solutions are as follows:

1. Fixation solutions for office chairs with casters

  • Chair fixed feet: Directly replace the original casters. After installation, the chair cannot move at all, providing a thorough fixation effect, but sacrificing mobility convenience. It is suitable for scenarios that require long-term fixation without the need for movement, such as fixed workstations or beside conference tables.
  • Casters with brakes or gravity self-locking casters:
    • Casters with brakes: They need to be manually locked and unlocked one by one. The operation is slightly cumbersome, but the cost is relatively low, making them suitable for scenarios where occasional fixation is required.
    • Gravity self-locking casters: They adopt an intelligent gravity-triggered mechanism. When a person sits on the chair, it unlocks and can roll; when the person leaves, it automatically locks, balancing convenience and stability. They are suitable for scenarios that require frequent movement but also temporary fixation.
  • Swivel chair wheel covers/fixers: These are accessories that can be directly clamped onto the existing casters. They are easy to install and require no tools. They can effectively lock the wheels and prevent noise while protecting the floor (such as wooden floors or tiles) from scratches. They are suitable for scenarios that require temporary fixation or have high floor protection requirements.
  • Low-cost techniques to increase friction:
    • Paper-stuffing method: Fold A4 paper and stuff it into the gaps between the wheels, which can significantly increase rolling resistance but cannot completely fix the chair. It is suitable for short-term emergency use.
    • Carpet-laying method: Lay a rough carpet in the area where the chair moves. By increasing the floor friction, it restricts sliding. This is an environmental modification solution suitable for scenarios that require long-term fixation and do not mind changing the floor material.

2. Fixation solutions for chairs with fixed legs Installing anti-slip foot pads is the main method. The materials can be silicone (soft and with excellent anti-slip and cushioning effects), EVA pads (with good elasticity), or felt pads (light and quiet). Choose foot pads with an appropriate inner diameter according to the shape of the chair legs (round or square), and ensure that the four foot pads completely wrap the bottom of the chair legs and are at the same height to avoid instability caused by a shifted center of gravity. The self-adhesive design makes installation convenient, but some products may have an odor initially and need to be ventilated before use.

3. Fixation solutions for chairs with hard seat surfaces Use seat anti-slip pads with adjustable straps. The back of these pads usually has silicone anti-slip particles that can grip both the seat surface and the floor. The straps on both sides can firmly fix the pads on the chair, solving the problems of seat sliding and discomfort from prolonged sitting. They are suitable for scenarios where the seat surface is smooth and comfort needs to be considered.

4. Reinforcement solutions for wobbly wooden chairs

  • Fill the gaps: Insert wooden wedges into the loose mortise-and-tenon joints to fill the gaps and make them tight again.
  • Strengthen the connections: Use metal L-shaped corner braces to fix the right-angle connections between the chair legs and the crossbars, enhancing the structural strength.
  • Add supports: Add diagonal braces between the chair legs to form a stable triangular support structure, fundamentally enhancing stability.
